iPad malware already out!
Apple iPad users are being warned of an email-borne threat which could give hackers unauthorised access to the device.
Sabina Datcu, technology writer for anti-virus firm BitDefender, wrote in a blog post today that the threat arrives via an unsolicited email urging the recipient to download the latest version of iTunes as a prelude to updating their iPad software.
“A direct link to the download location is conveniently provided. As a proof of cyber crime finesse, the web page the users are directed to is a perfect imitation of the one they would use for legitimate iTunes software downloads,” Datcu said.
Malware or phishing. Maybe phishware. Maybe I should shut up? Yes. I think that would be best outcome.

b) I like vaginas
c) If I had an iPad then someone might let me touch their…
When do those things get released here again?
But don’t worry, because Mac products are immune to viruses, so you’ll be sweet.
From the last line of the article:
Um… Guess Mac products are immune to viruses. This is just a classic phishing/malware combo targeting Windows users. The only connection to Apple is that it’s using the iPad and iTunes names to try and sucker users into downloading it.
Seriously Pirate, calling this iPad malware is just embarrassing yourself – it doesn’t run on the iPad, or use the iPad in any way. I know you hate Apple and all, but get a grip.
Whoops
I’m the first to give Apple shit for it’s so-called PC security, which largely involves hiding over in the corner behind the pot plant desperately hoping that no one sees them… supplemented with snide remarks, sticking it’s head in the sand… and then issuing regular multi-hundred MB security updates for it’s products…
But to call this iPad malware is spurious at best and link-baiting at another level.
It certainly will effect a MUCH bigger audience than Apple’s PC total customers… with 9/10 iPad owners also running Windows… but in reality, it’s just another phishing email scam… just happening to use Apple as the lure. Hardly new. Hardly news worthy. Which leads us back to link-baiting. Mentioning apple in disparaging terms is a nice way to draw traffic from the Steve Jobs Fanboi’s and also the apple-haters… flameware erupts… hello site traffic.
The iPad will suffer it’s security problems, as was proven with the iPhone, even as tightly locked down as it is. And I’ll be the first in line to throw shit at Apple for their shite approach to security But this is not one of those times. Darn it…
