Jaoquin Pheonix: Insane talent or just insane?
The question of whether actor Joaquin Phoenix is a celebrity joke or the puppeteer in an expensive prank on the movie industry has left the Venice Film Festival paralysed with doubt after the screening of the “documentary” about his career switch to rap music.
I’m Still Here, the directorial debut of fellow actor Casey Affleck – Phoenix’s brother-in-law – left audiences looking for the hidden camera. Affleck denied he directed a ruse after his film was screened out of competition yesterday.
“Elliptically, I would say . . . I sincerely don’t want to influence people’s interpretation. I can tell you there is no hoax. It makes me think of Candid Camera or something,” he said.
