Yes yes, I know I have complained about this asshole bank before and I am in the process of changing banks already. But I just have to share this story of incompetence that I have just been dealing with thanks to Westpac’s “fraud protection”. You see, I have had all the money in my account stolen over new years.
These days banks like Westpac claim to be hard on fraud and scams. They have proven this to me in the past because about 12 months ago I ended up stranded in the middle of the city with no way to get home. The ATM that I had attempted to use to get some money out had swallowed my card without saying why.
Eventually I got the story from Westpac. My card was skimmed in a McDonalds and it was being used illegally. Yay, it would have been nice to be told that before I was stranded. Westpac apologized and refunded some fees. And that was the end of it.
Or so I thought.
December 31st. I go and make some purchase at coles. My card is declined. All my money is gone.
I ring Westpac.
“Where be my money”
“I don’t know. I dunno until Jan 4th. Call back then”
So I wait. Thankfully my sister lends me some dosh. So I can eat.
I called them back today and this is what happened.
Those same scammers who got me 12 months ago? They are back and for some reason Westpac has allowed them to take all of the money from my account ($500 I am poor) using the old card number which was CANCELED 12 months ago.
So there you have it. Westpac’s fraud protection is a fucking joke. You can get scammed on cards that have been cancelled for 12 months!! And I am still waiting for my money to be returned.
Ps. Yes I am moving banks. And fucking oath I am lodging a complaint with the Banking and Financial Services Ombudsman.
