Crysis 2 PS3 Demo

The demo for Crysis 2 has finally hit the PlayStation Network, and PS3 gamers aren’t pleased. Is it because the game is unplayable? Hardly. Gamers are venting across message boards on the Internet because of how the demo looks.

That’s right: people care more about graphics than they do about gameplay. Take that, Nintendo!

In all honesty, the PS3 demo of Crysis 2 is a disappointment on the visual front. Then again, so is the PC version. Poor old Crytek has been pushed into a corner as it feels the wrath of two very committed and loyal fan bases.

Ok I would like to hear your comments! Before I start!

Console users will still buy it in droves XBOX users will probably pirate it like buggery too but we don’t talk about that. The PC crowd will probably just pirate it as its probably not worth the premium $$ they ask or at least wait for it to go bargain bin.
Many wont buy it because its probably just a boring shooter.
Me. I just dont care enough to get hold of it in any manner.

We don’t talk about rampant xbox piracy thanks to J-Tags? I talk about it all the time. The only thing that shits me about it is the J-Tag relies on a bug in an old software version, which is getting nigh on impossible to find in the wild, yet the PS3′s wide open for any old munchkin to do whatever they like to it.

It is interesting, look at most of the released screenshots from the game. They are all months and months old, and appear to look nothing like the game. It’s quite odd when you aren’t getting a ton of screenshots a week or so before release.

The issue I have with the PC version is it looks like it’s rendered in a low resolution and then scaled up to 1920×1200. Everything is grainy and with blurr. If someones is across a map it’s hard to spot them out. Compare it to any other FPS and there’s generally a crispness to objects. Not a washed out blurr.

You look at the maps, and it does look like there’s a lot of detail that’s gone into it, lots of environmental effects, but it’s all obscured by a blurr. As if the trick was, lets make a detailed environment which is too complex to render at high resolution. So we’ll render it at a low one and then enlarge that image.

Movement when it’s fast is impossible to see what’s going on. The amount of times in the demo i’ve gotten into close combat and it’s me and someone else just running around each other, unable to even see each other where it’s a blurr is a joke.

I still have some hope the demo was some stripped back. I does appear to be a console port, the whole, “press start button” although from some screenshots, there’s noticeably is more model detail in the PC version when it comes to objects off the playing area, but other wise graphics look the same. What appears to be going on might be the only way to force it onto consoles, but for PC this shouldn’t be done.

It’d be nice to have some word from developers at least. Did they really face huge problems with the engine and this is the best they could do? If so why would it effect the PC version?

It also makes no sense why they’d release demos which everyone says looks like shit, when graphics was a big selling point.

I’ve attached two screen shots. One from the crysis website, one of the character model at the end of a multilayer round. When it’s just the model, should be a hero version, fullest detail. It actually looks better here with out the awkward rough specular highlights bumping around.

That model is crap looking, low in detail and no where near as good as they looked in crysis 1.

Look at the bullshit screenshot one from official site. Which looks like a rendered promotional piece. Yet it was said to be a screenshot.

Looking through more screen shots on the official site. Another big difference is just the texture detail. While the blurring everything into the distance seems it seems to not be as severe in official screenshots.

Look at the difference in textures on the hand holding the gun. Quite dramatic.

Sorry to be spamming this thread, was looking at some reviews, they’re actually pretty decent, even the ones for consoles. All say the graphics are great. weird.
