Thor: mini review
I just got home from seeing Thor. And I walked out thinking, damn I just paid money to see that. I’m also a little grumpy because I have a headache which always seems to happen after I watch a 3D movie. Unfortunately I couldn’t find a screening where this movie was being shown normally. Srs, fuck 3D. It’s a fucking gimick and it’s really starting to shit me to tears.
Anyway. Thor looks awesome. It is pretty, has an amazing cast and the effects are fan-fucking-tastic. Unfortuantely the story is just a pile of fuck. It really seems like they tried to do too much with the script and it leaves you feeling very unsatisfied and somewhat confused to the motivations of some characters. The major plot has holes in it the size of watermelons. The whole love story with Natalie Portman’s character seems lame and simply tacked on to appeal to the women-folk.
It is sad too because this movie had everything going for it. Like I said, the movie looks fantastic. Asgard is breath taking. The characters are awesome and the acting is great.
But on the whole. The movie is weak. In my opinion this is just another hollywood fuckup where all the money was spent on making it look good and seem great.
I give Thor 4 out of 10. Which means you should wait until there is a decent DVD rip.
Did you see this to? What did you think?

I enjoyed it.
If you try and dissect the film and plot, i am sure there’s lots of issues. I see no need. I didn’t have any issues while watching it. The logic and progression made sense and the love story is so superficial that it’s not an issue.
It’s a different sort of super hero film than the Iron Mans. It’s more a historical drama, greek play but in space. Those sort of themes and stories you’re used to seeing people in toga’s and roman Armour arguing about. Except in a pretty space city. Then with the earth.
I enjoyed it, didn’t bore me, loose interest and give me any gripes to complain about. Wasn’t great, but it was quite decent. Main complaint would not be for flaws besides it not really good. So it all worked for me for the most part.
3D was decent for not shot in 3D.
Apparently it is loosing out at the Aussie box office to Fast and Furious 5. Which is a hell of a lot of silly fun.
Any Marvel nerds able to explain what that thing after the credits was?
I enjoyed it, but there was something that just didn’t make me totally like it. The acting, action, FXs and hell even the 3D wasn’t as bad as I though it would be. I think it’s the story overall. I was hoping for more. Though I have nfi when it comes to Thor as I don’t know shit about him really. So overall not a bad movie, just not great.
There were a couple of versions of Thor. I was disappointed you didn’t get to see how his hammer was made. I was expecting that to be in the movie at least. Special effects were good. dissecting the movie a little i was also disappointed with Thors character progression. I liked the end part after the credits as well.
I wasnt expecting a great deal but i liked this movie if i dont regard the comic or look into the storyline too much.
Will probably see it this week. Intend to go with the same attitude as for SuckerPunch – enjoy the special effects and boobies, never mind the shit plot full of holes. At least the holes won’t be as big as the MSM’s version of ‘how the world works’.
But have to ask, about that pic to the thread – WTF? The big chief God has an eyepatch? That’s a bit disconcerting.
But I suppose things could be worse. He could have a parrot on his shoulder too.
Hmm. I hate 3D too, and have a few pairs of 3D glasses lying around. Should use them to make myself a pair of ’2D glasses’. http://www.lifehacker.com.au/2011/02/diy-2d-glasses-help-you-avoid-the-pain-of-3d-movies/
Too bad about still having to pay the ripoff price.
And when the fuck is Atlas Shrugged coming out in Oz?
haven’t seen the movie, but if you know your mythology, yes odin has one eye because he traded it for wisdom or something
How is this movie at 93% on Rotten Tomatoes right now? An incredible waste of time, one of the worst movies I can remember seeing in the past five years.
what are the other worst films and some films you’ve really liked in the last 5 years?
I actually want to go see this, but Village Tasmania is only showing the 2D version in Gold Class and I don’t want to see it that badly that I want to fork out that kinda money to see it. *sigh* looks like I’ll be waiting for a DVD rip too :S

Another weird Marvel artifact, like the Casket of Ancient Winters.
I thought the movie was OK, Loki’s changing motivations were completely bizarre and confusing but whatevs. I’m a Thor mark so I was practically guaranteed to enjoy it somewhat.
In what way, spoiler tag if necessary.
What motivation change?
He wanted to prove his worth in his fathers eyes above all else. Even if it meant screwing over his brother who he was jealous of being the favorite and true son.
Where did it deviate from that?
He was reckless and not thought through, but that is part of the weakness he wanted to prove wasn’t there.
I actually really enjoyed it, the story developed the character well enough to explain the Avengers story, kept to the tales of Asguard and the Frost Giants, and the Loki vs Thor rivalry established.
the inclusion of Sif and co was cool, even more so was Clint Barton (guy with the bow, look him up
) being included as a future Avenger to come.
Oh, and the bit at the end has to do with the Captain America storyline
Odin has one eye. Norse mythology and all.
I liked Loki’s acting in “The Mask” better.
Two words:
Shit.
