Samsung Galaxy S 2
In this review I shall compare this device against the Apple iPhone 4. Because I hate it and Apple. With a passion. Also for some people, this is the phone to benchmark all other phones.
Recently, I have upgraded to the Samsung Galaxy S II and I am going to come out and say it. This is simply the best phone I have ever had. My previous phone was an HTC Desire HD and after a year of use, I was totally sick of it. I don’t know why HTC needs to load their bloatware version of Android onto it. Android is a wonderful OS and HTC just cocks it up with Sense in my opinion, but the Galaxy S II suffers from no such bloat.
The Samsung Galaxy S II is one of the first phones to come with a dual core processor and boy, can you tell. There is absolutely no lag on this phone. Apps open in a snap as do all the other functions and animations of the phone. It is a total pleasure to use.
I tested out a few 3D games on this phone and noticed no lag or performance issues. It was flawless.
Being a dual-core processor, I was expecting the battery to last about 3 mins before needing a charge. However, I was very surprised as it turns out the battery life is really very good. I regularly go a day or so without charging and I watch about 30-40 mins of video on my daily commute without any issues. I usually have Bluetooth and GPS off, but with these on I see only a slight increase in battery drain. According to GSMArena, this phone has nearly double the battery life of the iPhone 4.
The screen on this phone is fantastic. Vivid, bright and BIG. While its’ resolution is slightly lower than the lamer iPhone 4, it’s bigger, you don’t see any pixelation and the colours are fantastic. Also, you’re going to use it much more than you would on a pox-riddled iPhone.
It’s also super skinny and light. I tested this by being a fat guy, putting on some tight jeans and then putting my phone into my back pocket. Easy as! Bigger, faster and better than an leprous iPhone 4 and much easier to carry around, not to mention it’s less embarrassing.
Like I said earlier, I use this phone to watch videos and listen to radio as I travel. The screen is much larger than the iPhone 4 (Did I mention that the iPhone makes you smell bad?.. true facts made up by me!). Also if you do want to watch a video, you simply copy the AVI (or one of the other many formats it supports) to the phone via USB. There is no converting as this phone is DivX compliant, unlike the iPhone where you have to convert your movies and sell your soul to Apple. Oh, and like I said, you can copy your movies to the phone via USB, because this phone also acts as portable hard drive. Can you do that with your smelly iPhone? NO. It will also play all your MP3’s and stream junk from the internet.
Basically, what you want this phone to do, it will, unlike that piece-of-poop, DRM restricted, clown-shoes phone that is the Apple iPhone.
It also has more usable memory, more RAM (double), faster processor, better battery (you can even access it!) better WIFI support, FM radio, and a camera you’ll actually use!
The only drawback to this phone is the Samsung Kies software that it uses for management from the PC. This software is sooooo SHIT (bro). There is no easy way to say it. But to be honest, I don’t see why you’d bother using it as the phone doesn’t really need it. Once you have the drivers installed your good to go.
I liked this phone so much I considered purchasing their new Galaxy tab. But unfortunately I am not allowed to, because Apple says so. I’m not even an Apple customer and they are restricting my choice. Why would you support a company like that?
So if you are up for a new phone, get this. If you choose an iPhone over this, then you are mentally deficient. Or a Hipster. I’ll even go as far as saying I that I don’t see how the iPhone 5 can beat this phone, unless it’s running Android. And Apple stops sucking dick.
My rating, 9 of 10. It would be 10 out of 10 but it didn’t come pre-loaded with porn.

Thats sounds awesome, almost as good as the HTC sensation in fact!
I’ve got a HTC desire S. to be honest i’m kind of over it. It is kind of slow, reception is terrible and so is battery life. Maybe i should try the Samsung out.Oh and with reception, i’m with telstra.
I have the SGS 1 and love it, battery life is a little low but I seriously considered upgrading to this, however with the Nexus Prime and SGS3 on the horizon I’ll probably hold off a little while until they release and see what the comparisons are like. Everything I’ve read about it says it’s pretty much the benchmark phone for smart phones.
I ditched my iphone for an SGS2 and man, was that ever the right move. Everything pirate said is true, and more! Not only have I stopped smelling as bad, I suddenly have new and better friends, chicks dig me and I got a massive raise at work*. * Some or all of these things may or may not have actually occurred. The phone stuff, however, is true.
I am probably getting one of these since the boy broke my Galaxy last week. Disappointing to see that you still need Kies for it, that program is a total POS. I’m using an iphone 3gs as a replacement atm and it is so frustratingly slow.
I don’t think you need Keis for anything more than some of stock firmware upgrade processes and some driver support for some of the sync stuff – if you just wanna transfer AVIs’n'shit to it then you can stick it in HDD mode and off you go.FWIW I have the 7″ tab (with custom firmware now that the hellstra one was taking 4-5 minutes to load basic web pages on vodap0wn3d) and it’s a really good piece of kit – lovely piece of build, no wonder apple are afraid of it.
My SGS2 just gave me the best blowjob. f#%k i love this phone.
Yeah ok, but what’s your opinion on the iPhone 4?
Review needs more iPhone.
I would have loved to have waited for the S2, but needed a smart phone when I bought my Galaxy S.
Glad to hear the S2 is all it was said to be.
And…….. I f#%kING TOLD YOU SO WHEN YOU POSTED BEFORE ABOUT GETTING A NEW PHONE…..SHOULD HAVE GOT THE GALAXY S INSTEAD OF THE HTC!!!!!
I could really be a “told-you-so” asshole and dig up the old thread, but I’m hungry and running out for a breakfast burrito
Enjoy!!!!!
My Galaxy S is in NZ still. Stoopid earthquake.
I’m thinking about upgrading to this phone from the iphone 4. Just the ability to copy video content onto it without converting to another format is good enough reason…
