And yes, this thing can be road registered in Australia. It has (removable) head and tail lights. The "standard" model doesn't have the wings, but they are available as an option.

Its going to be even better now that Ariel has gotten some sense and dropped the stupid Rover engine, and they're getting a Honda motor for it (the 2.0L out of the Civic Type-R). A 240HP engine in a 500kg car is nothing to sneeze at.

A couple of people have mentioned Porsche 911's (Tyfus, cray :D ) but I thought I'd post another one for good measure. Ones like this Targa model (note distinctive removable roof and roll-bar) aren't so ridiculously expensive that it would be out of my foreseeable price range to buy sometime in my life. They're asking $27,000 for this one.

I think whale-tails are a little immodest and would be happy to go without one, but the flared wheels on the wide-body models are hella cool. Anyone had experience with cars like this? My brother had a 924 and it was a piece of crap.

My dad had a 1966 911 for a while. I drove it when I had L plates :)

It was a damn cool car, and heaps of fun - but it's amazing how basic those older sporsts cars are. Very weird ergonomics, cramped driving position, etc..

I'd still have one though :)

royale
21-10-2003, 01:33 PM
Both correct, VW car, built by VW/Audi

The 924 originated as a contract design by Porsche for Volkswagen, based mainly on readily available parts from the VW parts bin. The car was to be the VW Type 477, also known by the code name EA435. However, VW chose to cancel plans late in the project for financial reasons. Porsche then bought the rights to the design for $60 million ($10 million less than the cost of development) and produced the car, having VW assemble the cars at its Audi plant in Neckarsulm.

01-12-2003, 01:45 PM
The thing that shits me whenever I look at a Walkinshaw is the gouges they took outa the body kit on the side, so that the door can be opened properly ... fucking up the clean lines of the car. It just smacks of lazy arsed engineering by Holden. Surely it wouldn't take that much work to design a new door hinge that allowed the door to be opened without hitting the body kit.

well it's a holden, so you can't expect to see any real engineering :)

I have a thing for the Lagonda Rapide, it has the same structure & running gear as the DB4-DB6 Aston Martins but is a 4 door saloon with a usable boot.

It's 4 litre twin cam 6 cylinder engine is detuned to 290hp(oppossed to upto 370hp in some roadgoing versions of the DB5 with the same engine).
