Cost of total car respray...Shop vs. DIY

I could go on about this forever, but a GOOD shop respray will be 5-7k, tafe resprays about 2-3k, dodgey resprays by bodgey shops around the same.

Home resprays in acrylic laquer should only cost a couple of hundred (say 5-800). The total cost depends how on many mistakes you make, and any equipment you need will be extra.

Depending on the quality of finish you're after, the amount of work in DIY will change dramatically. Ive painted 2 cars, the first I did in 2 weeks start to finish, the other took a number of months (~5) including bodywork and bare metal stripping.

i was thinking, one day maybe if i get relly really bored and have some spare cash around i could change the car colour and improve the shithosue paint....

a reasonably uniform, fairly shiny finish would be nice
