Ladies and gent, we have a thread on our forum that needs some input. Kleph’s Kate Upton appreciation thread. I think it has potential. So please go, post and help us all appreciate teh boobies.
After much consideration and research. We have agreed to go back to ZGeek’s humble beginnings of being a NSFW website. So post what you like, just nothing illegal.
We shall try to keep the front page relatively safe where we can. But please be warned. There maybe boobies and weird shit popping up from now.
Well my plan to destroy the site is a complete success. ZGeek is almost back the way I like it, small, stable… but… no boobies.
And this makes me sad.
As I have grown up over the years, my time for ZGeek has dwindled down to a point I actually don’t have time to update the site during work hours. So the whole SFW deal doesn’t really affect me any more. And to be honest, I don’t really care if it does affect you*.
But I should ask. What do you think about bring NSFW back to the front page of ZGeek? I’m not talking about close up shots of genitals and dead babies. But more like bringing “teh boobies” back.
I’m cool with it. Are you? Leave your opinion in the comments.
I’ve spent sometime over the weekend putting some silliness back in the site. You can now earn achievements and random boobies on ZGeek by doing stuff on the site. This will also earn you points to increase your rank and unlock content. I don’t have any content yet to lock but I will soon. In the meantime you can use it to compare e-wangs.
To earn points, simply post news to the front page, post in the forums, reply to stuff, rate others posts. Getting viewers on your posts will now also earn you points. There are a bunch of other achievements, but I am going to leave them as a surprise for you to find.
Also there will be physical (and crappy) prizes for those who get certain achievements in the future.
Ooops, Kleph pointed out to me that the sites avatar system is “fucked”. Currently only allowing stock avatards and gravatars. So I have fixed that.
If you want to change your avatar, do it here.
Our long and boring legal battle continues. I’d like to post a big ass update on what’s going on. But I can’t, because things are going well and I don’t want to complicate things.
What I can say is that mediation has been ordered for the defamation action against us. But, they have only given me 10 days to pay. So if anyone out there can donate, please do. It would be much appreciated.
If you’re new, you can read about the entire saga (so far) here.
I am happy to tentatively say that everything on the site should now be fixed.
- Registrations and password resets – fixed. We now have a stable mail server so reset emails will be sent!
- Logins – Fixed. – You may need to reset your pw if you have not logged on to the site for a while.
- Hosting – We are now on using a service specifically build and made to host WordPress sites. So far I am well impressed. Not a single outage!
- Webmaster – Feeling fine and grand now thanks to the love of the zgeekers.
So if you have any problems. Shove them up your arse.
Oh I am sorry, I work fixing things and all my emails end with “if you have anymore issues, please let me know” or close to that. So it just nice to tell someone to stick it up their arse. Because I am a cunt like that.
If you do have any problems, email thepirate at zgeek dot com. I will fix it without being rude. Also if you have any life problems you want me to know about or advise on, or spare nude shots. Sent them.
Actually just email me. I am so lonely.
I’m moving ZGeek to a new host so there maybe some issues over the next week as I get it set up. Please bear with me, I am working to fix all the issues and this should do a lot for the stability. Once this is done, we will have a fighting force of extraordinary magnitude.
You have my gratitude. I hope the phwoar makes up for it.
(Server move done! Let me know if you find any problems)
I still can’t sign up or log in or anything to this site.
So as an offering of good will to the Z gods. Here’s a picture I made of Emily Ratajkowski as a ginger.
Pirate adds: Sorry chap. If anyone else is having issues, please let me know. Email thepirate at zgeek.com with details of the issue.
In other news I am in the process of moving the site to a different host who specialises in WordPress hosting. So hoping that the performance issues go away soon! And thanks for the pic. Great work, 10/10 would fap again.
As you can see, I have been slowing rebuilding the site and I have hit a dilemma that I would like to throw out to the ZGeeker’s as it concerns you. Especially if you use facebook.
I like to feed the stories from ZGeek to our facebook group. I have recently installed the facebook connection to enhance this (check it out here). My issues is that I want to import the comments from Facebook back to ZGeek. But this uses people real names. So I am hesitant about this, especially with the lunatic fringe out there.
So what do you think? I really like the idea of merging the comments, but I am worried about exposing peoples identities. I would love your feedback.
Happy New Year all!! Thanks for sticking with us. This year looks to be a good one finally for us.
The legal shenanigans are going well (thanks to the brilliant team of legal geniuses from ZGeek), I’m sorting out the technical issues (by dumping vbulletin) and I’m doing well thanks to the awesome support of all my friends and the ZGeek crew. So thanks heaps and I wish you all the best for the new year.
I’m going post boobies today to celebrate!!
I do apologise for the late update but I’m been a bit busy with work and personal matters. A few weeks ago was a huge week in our legal battle.
Unfortunately the courts have compelled disclosure of certain details of some ZGeek members to the person who has been keeping us in Court for the last three years. So I have had to hand over the contact details for over forty ZGeek members who now could be listed as possible defendants in the defamation action. Some of these people did not even post in the threads, or simply commented on threads in which the plaintiff was not identified.
The Court compelled the disclosure of these details to the plaintiff despite our objections that this person is linked to the Jonathan Nolan and Greg Smith who have been the subject of allegations of fraud in the media and that these details may be used improperly. Smith and Nolan attempted to sue us for $42.5 million dollars after they alleged they had lost a movie deal after ZGeek members bagged the book on which they said they were basing their movie. The book set out a ridiculous conspiracy theory that nuclear bombs where used in the 9/11 attacks.
Anyhow the battle continues and the need for funds is now greater than ever before.
Hi all. An update is coming soon. I just have to run it past the legal eagles. But we are needing to raise some money for the long legal battle we are fighting against.
So if you can help, please click here to donate. Or if you are on the front page, there are links at the top of the page and down the left hand side. Donations over $20 will get you a subscription, or just go here and subscribe. Just let me know your username.
So I have switched on the new theme for the front page. Flame me softly. Also the bridge between wordpress and the forums is up and running again. And there is a new theme on the forums if you want use that too. But that’s your choice to use…. for a few days (dont worry the other themes will remain if you prefer to choose that.) Just scroll down the bottom of the page.
This new theme works nicely with multimedia. Give it a go on the front page and enjoy!
Hi kids. While we are not posting current affairs news, we still want your funny, interesting and geeky news, articles, links and posts!
So if you have found anything that might entertain us. Please keep sending it in! There’s a bit of confusion about what we are after now, so basically if you find it entertaining, we want to hear about it.
Also if you have any projects or work you want to show off. Please let us know, we will pimp it goooood.
Speaking of pimping, here are some threads you should check out.My secret explorers club.
Dumping vbulletin for another forum software. The debate over the death of the site still rages.
As the regulars of ZGeek would know, the last few years have been hard on me and site has suffered. It’s not just the legal action, but also dealing with loss and rebuilding and a bunch of personal matters.
So this has prompted a lot of soul searching about what I want and want for the site and its future. Especially after finding out that Australian law is so weak in protecting our freedom of speech in online publications.
But I’m not here to rant about that again. I am here to talk about the future of ZGeek.
Over the last couple of months I have been toying with closing down the forums. For two reasons, technically they are a mess. 10 years of Vbulletin has left a bloated database that’s full of shit. The other reason is the legal implications of being open to liability for posts you make.
So I was considering for a long time to close the forums and concentrate on just our news blog.
But late one morning it hit me. I am utterly wrong. The forums built this site. The community is what has got me through all the shit of the last few years and in regard to the legal action, the courts have not found myself or any member of the site guilty of anything and screw giving into people like that.
So a new plan has been set and the future of ZGeek is going to change.
- The forums will once again become the focus of ZGeek.
I don’t care if we only have three people using it. The forums will live on. I do this site for no purpose other than the fun of playing on the internet. I hope like minded people will come and join me in the forums for shenanigans.
- We are giving up the news. From now on our front page will be only for news and stuff related to the interests of ZGeek members that we want to pimp. Stuff going on in our lives, projects, rants, stories, info, funny shit and more. But current events will now be discussed in the forums. The front page will be here to showcase the awesome work of the ZGeek mob and thusly we will be giving preference to items written or produced by our members. So I do hope you get behind this. The ZGeek news monkeys and myself will be your MC’s, we will edit your posts. Fix spelling and images so you dont have to worry about that if it’s a concern. We will also filter out the spam.
- The forums will be locked down. This is to provide better security for us and you. Threads will still be viewable, but the content will need a membership to view.
So that’s the plan for the future of ZGeek. Smaller and less, but I hope better. I’ll also be changing the format of the front page to something more fun.
