  • New Dr Who to make online debut

Australian Doctor Who fans will be able to legally watch new episodes of the sci-fi series online before they air on television. iView - the ABC's internet broadcasting service - will launch the first episode of the series from midnight on Friday April 16. The episode will be shown two days later on ABC1.

The new series stars Matt Smith as the 11th Doctor and Karen Gillian as his companion Amy Pond. BAFTA-winning writer Steven Moffat has replaced Russell T Davies as the series' lead writer and executive producer.

Marchpig: Good on the ABC, lack of fear of ratings and advertising losses means they can show the way of the future regarding TV.

agreed MyPetMonkey and bobdown, he looks like a gay elf thing. And one of the main writers left too, so it'll be interesting to see if the show can stand up again after such massive change

With it being called iView (as is the BBC version) and getting BBC programs are the 2 connected? Does this mean they will be exchanging programs? I reckon you are onto a winner if it is.

The ABC has always held a close association with the BBC on which it was originally modeled. So, yes, we have watched a lot of what you would have watched over the years...
Catweazel, the Wombles, Dr. Who, and so on.

Yeah, I was aware of that. What I meant was that the BBC iPlayer has some brilliant documentary, comedy etc that never makes it to your country and which I can watch as soon as it is broadcast (but which people outside the UK can't as the iPlayer only works in the UK atm). Is it likely that ABC could do the same thing and make it a reciprocal arrangement with the BBC?

"The next series of Doctor Who will premiere on April 3 on BBC One, it has been confirmed.

New showrunner Steven Moffat made the announcement this morning on BBC Breakfast.

The episode is entitled 'The Eleventh Hour' and will feature Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor and Karen Gillan as his new companion Amy Pond.

The upcoming series is the 31st since Doctor Who first aired in November 1963 and the fifth since the programme's 2005 relaunch headed by Russell T. Davies."

I'm quite looking forward to it.
Less Davies and his 'running down corridors', more Moffat and good writing.

Sounds like the new guy may fun:

"He brings back genuine madness to the role of the Doctor - Matt's Doctor is bonkers."

      Says Moffat
