  • Australia abolishes the death penalty forever... Wait, what?

A Liberal senator has used the permanent abolition of the death penalty in Australia to call for Indonesia to spare the lives of members of the Bali nine, saying the use of capital punishment is not reflective of a civilised society. The Federal Parliament today passed laws that ensure the death penalty can never be reintroduced by any state or territory in Australia.
Both sides of politics supported the move, which is seen as largely symbolic.

Well that's the government for you. The last dude we hung was in 1967. Good to see they didn't waste any time doing this

Some things are worse than being shot. I reckon a lifetime of solitary confinement is one of them, and he deserves every second of it.

What if we don't call it Capital Punishment? What if we just call it "Mandatory Post-Natal Abortion, With Extreme Prejudice, Right In Your Stupid Fat Face, With Hot Metal Pokers And Razor Dildos"? Can we sneak it through then?

You misunderstand, shot in the foot, allowed to heal, shot in the hand, allowed to heal, shot in the gut, allowed to heal and so on.

Bullets don't grow on trees and if they did, I'd rather we be selling them to filthy fucking foreigners to boost our economy, rather than wasting them on pointless retribution.

So let me get this straight, Australia is saying that killing nine Australians who were convicted of a heinous crime makes Indonesia shittier than we are?

So how about the indonesians they kill every year? Does our evolved sense of human rights not extend as far as Indonesians?

Not to mention capital punishment wasn't banned - it was banned from being unbanned. Whoop de fucking do. That's like making murder never again allowed to be legal.

So if we want to institute it, we just need to repeal the ban on unbanning first, then unban it?

Hooray, another hurdle! I'll sleep better at night.

Wonder if they'll ever put a similar hurdle in place to stop conscription.

Nothing pointless about it, the turd is 3 feet lower than a cunt and deserves every ounce of pain coming to him. Why he wasn't shot at the farm house has me buggered.

You have a problem with National Service or just conscription?

I forget what happened exactly. Why wasn't he shot? Most Australian police forces seem perfectly willing and able to shoot mentally ill suspects when they are unarmed, so why didn't they do it that time?

He was cornered in a farm house, he had set it on fire after killing the occupants, which I think he knew. The TRG went in with tear gas I think and cuffed the turd.

      He obviously does.

I know a guy who was sentenced to death once. The last person in Victoria in fact. Got commuted to life, then he was released after a long stretch.

Not if you get off on torturing mentally ill people who are no longer a threat to anyone.

On Crime & Investigation they were advertising a show about the last person ever sentenced to death in Australia(death penalty abolished before it was due to be carried out, hence no execution) it was a woman, she was sentenced in 1981 I think.

I personally couldn't give a fuck how cogniscent he is/was of what he was doing, he did it and the consequences should fit the action. currently they do not.

So if you agree that murder is a bad thing, why is it any different when it's committed by a Government?

Shouldn't the belief that taking someone else's life is inherently wrong be extended to all people, regardless of whatever crime they may have committed?
