  • Sydney Airport rated the worst, makes more profit being shithouse

Sydney Airport has been labelled Australia's worst major airport for the fourth consecutive year.

The latest Australian Competition & Consumer Commission annual report on airport performance again put Sydney behind first-ranked Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and Melbourne on a range of measures, The Australian reports

"This year's report has found the performance of Sydney Airport to be of the greatest concern,'' ACCC chairman Graeme Samuel said.

"The indications are that Sydney has increased profits by permitting service quality to fall below that which airlines reasonably expect.''

I can vouch for this airport being completely fucked. There is no plance to wait for people unless you want to pay a lot of money. No where to pick people up without being harassed by taxis and douche bag parking inspectors. And finding your way into the international airport without being funneled into a paid parking lot is pretty much impossible.

    Fuck Sydney airport.

There's a story in the Age today that says Melbourne airport's the worst for parking; 20.5% of their total revenue comes from parking, while Sydney is 7.8%. They're all cunts.

You can see why Melbourne airport is dead against a rail link.

      Where there's a will there's a way.

Domestic arrivals: Drive about 50m passed the building where taxi's line up and you will see valet parking entry on your left. Immediately passed this is a road that turns left. Turn into this road. You now have a choice to park to your left in the bus parking section, turn into the driveway on the right and there's Qantas ground crew staff parking area, or just up a bit further on the opposite side of the road from the big undercover staff parking thing there's also "free" spots to park. The latter two are a piece of piss at night time when most of the spots are empty. Once you've parked you can get out, stroll into the terminal and wait around for people, then walk back to your car with their bags. Easy.

      International arrivals:
This ones a bit trickier, dont drive into the car park, just do laps and until they show up in the taxi rank. Then just pull-over and pick-up! But they have to know beforehand to go to the taxi rank... Helps if they can call you as soon as they go through customs.

Ive been doing this for years and have never been fined or told off. Fuck giving Sydney Airport any more money....

The rail link in Sydney is a fucking rort too. A one-way fair from the Airport to the city: $15. A one-way fair from a nearby train station that's further away from the city: $3.60.

If you have two or more people it's cheaper to get a cab. And they even sting the cabbies for 2 bucks just for the privilege of using their driveway. Money grubbing cunts.

Don't know why, as long as it's privately owned. The one in Sydney charges $15.00 to go four stations, it's not like anybody is going to go broke.

Lets not forget the layout to get through security at Sydney airport.

      1. There are potential for 5 security queues in the quantas terminal to be open during peak hours, but invariably there are only 3 or 4 open.
      2. 4 of those 5 security queues do not have tables with the little trays lined up close to the drop off for the belt to the xray so people can slide their belongings forward and unload into the trays and then just slide into the xray as most airports do. Instead, people have to grab a tray and carry it to the xray and then unload all their stuff right when int is their turn to put their things through the xray. This slows everyone down, remarkably.

i was very impressed with Adelaide Airport when i was there earlier this year and last year. And Perth Domestic has got a shitload better in the last 12months too. International at Perth hasn't changed in 20 odd years from what i've seen...

I know what you mean then there are the people who just don't know how to get things out of their bag before they are at the front the of the queue.

At Sydney I always find the security gate far to the left normally works best for me as most first timers to the airport like using the gates in the middle.

On the whole train issue in Sydney as someone who does live close to the airport I always cab it for the amount of money it costs I get the advantage of being there in 15 minutes instead of 1/2+ hour on shitty rail.

Around the international airport it is now just a giant shopping centre when you go through there really isn't anything else to do in there if you don't have lounge access.

If you ever talk to the cab drivers at Sydney airport they all hate how Macquarie treats the cabbies since you are often standing in the queue at the rank waiting there are no cabs around and when you go past the holding area it is full of cabs. Seriously you think they would have gotten the whole release of cabs down pat by now.....

      I can't stand Sydney Airport.
Melb Airport really isn't that bad with parking. If you park for less than 15 minutes it's free and 15 to 30 minutes it's like $2 or $4 (can't remember). So if you time it right for the person's arrival (hard I know), you can actually get in and out pretty cheap. Also if you park in the right spot it's a nice easy stroll straight from airport to car without having to use an elevator. There are also spots you can stop in to pick people up and drop them off. Over all, no free parking anymore but what's there is pretty convenient and not too expensive.

We've got our Domestic pickups sorted......

Go and wait in Macca's round the corner (near the Ambulance Service planes). There are arrival boards in the restaurant, so you can see what the flights are doing, then just wait for the call. I can always get a parking spot in the carpark.

EDIT: Oh yeah - Darwin Airport rocks. Every time I am there it is 2am in the morning, pouring rain, bit it's the busiest place in Darwin. Everyone drinks and smokes and is just so laid back...

Not sure if this will work, but this is where I found a free place to get picked up last time I got into Sydney Airport:
