  • Bitchface Conroy has a cry after being labeled an enemy of the Internet

Minister Stephen Conroy has hit back at a new report listing Australia as a potential internet enemy.

Press freedom advocacy group Reporters without Borders released their Enemies of the Internet report last week, to coincide with World Day Against Cyber Censorship.

It found Australia should be kept "under surveillance" for signs that internet freedom may soon be curbed.

The Federal Government wants all internet service providers to ban Refused Classification material hosted on overseas servers.

Senator Conroy said listing Australia as a country that may be an "enemy of the internet" — alongside South Korea, Turkey and Russia — showed Reporters without Borders were seriously mislead about what Labor wanted to do.

Eat shit Conroy. You are what you are. Deal with it.

The people have spoken! Time to start listening to the people Conroy, you faux information dictator, because that is what a representative democracy is all about.

I do hope that Australia continues to get publically shamed until it conforms to the "free uncensored information" international standards.

So Labor don't want all internet providers filtering internet access, based on a block list that is maintained in secret by a government department?

They both do, and they are both willing to lie about it in order to get your vote.

The worrying thing is people who falsely believe the government wouldn't do anything against the best purest interests of the aussie people.

It's like during the cold war, some soviet guy visiting the US saying the worrying thing was, everyone knew the soviet leaders lied and were dishonest. The worrying thing is in the west people seemed to actually believe their leaders. I'm paraphrasing but something like that.

The point is, it seems the argument conroy and many filter supporters have is, "oh we would never abuse this power or do anything the people wouldn't want... we're a good country!"

That kind of trust being wanted, and given is scary stuff.

What Labor wanted to do was to filter the entire internet based on their secret list of blocked sites without everyone complaining and making a fuss about it... and you guys had to go and ruin it for them.

As I see it, those most opposed to the filter are those who will have to administer it; and who will have the ability to leak the list anonymously.
So if the Honorable Senator insists the secrecy of the list is central to his plans, his plans have some stormy weather ahead.

I find it interesting that its the higher end of the intelligence bell curve that seem to be the ones most apposing it. Plus some of the really really old school people, pre baby-boomer era, for they have seen first hand where a heavy handed government control system can lead (ie the pinkie commies, and the nazies).
The middle of the range to lower intelligence people seem to know little about the matter, that is if they know anything at all. Plus when presented the info they usually grunt "i dont give a fuck" which is the attitude that the government is banking on to pass such legislation.

the filter is for big media to block access to torrent sites. the current legal trend seems to be against big media a little, so things are looking up in that regard.
aside from the fact that this government couldn't get a bill passed even if it was turning Abbott into a saint.
