  • Stephen Conroy ignores government order to release NBN report

The Federal Government has refused to comply with a Senate order to release a viability study into its National Broadband Network (NBN) proposal.

The order, moved successfully by the Greens through the Senate, required the Government to produce the $25 million taxpayer-funded implementation study today.

After Communications Minister Stephen Conroy's refusal to comply, the Greens said they would not support further debate on telecommunications legislation.

Greens Senator Scott Ludlam says the research provides crucial information for Senators who are deciding whether to support the Government's proposal.

      Study content:

Well, our tender was a disaster, so lets do this ourselves. How hard can it be? We've got a bucket of stimulus money, and this is a great way to get some cushy industry jobs for people we owe.

That means two things: 1 - there's stuff in the report they don't like, and 2 - they want a double-dissolution election, so they have a chance at a majority and ram this plan through regardless. But the numbers look bad until after July.

So...remember in the lead up to the last election how Labor accused the Libs of hiding in the shadows and promised greater transparency? How's that working out? In addition to this one Rudd admits he received a letter from Garrett's department warning of problems with the Insulation scheme but won't release it.

And a report on the radio this morning that all contractors and subcontractors working on indigenous housing projects (the one the government has managed to spend several hundred million on without building a single house) have been sworn to secrecy.

Why go to the Queen for a degree. I've managed to get one through the local Uni, although I'm not sure if they offer degrees in sacking governments

You don't even need to waste a few years of your life earning a degree! I've got one from the University of the Philippines. It was only about $50 and they'll put whatever you want on it!

Their incompetent bumbling seems like rampant progress when compared to this guy. They were content to put the onus on parents to do the blocking.

I know I do. Neither were anywhere near as terrible as Conroy.

As it should be, this guy is the biggest cocknaught since Latham.

Hey! Don't you be disparaging Latham. The man punched a cabbie. That alone earned him my vote.

In the last three years, I think I've had one competent taxi driver. The rest of them needed a good punching.

Because neither actually did anything. I can only recall Alston's pursuit of lefties in the ABC, he was a rubber-stamp for everything else. Coonan just put out press releases. We finally get the chance to do something in telecommunications and we get this wanker. It's the federal equivalent of the NSW transport system.

we got the latham that lost the election, we don't know what the one that won would have been.

In all accounts though, the australian people owe a lot to latham. It is because of him that Howard didn't scrap the PBS with the US free trade agreement which would have directly raised the price of medicine in Australia. So for whatever you want to say about him, you can't deny that's a pretty big, positive impact for every australian.
