  • Yet more religious fuckwittery.

A rabbinical guidebook for killing non-Jews has sparked an uproar in Israel and exposed the power a bunch of genocidal theocrats wield over the government.

When I went into the Jewish religious book emporium, Pomeranz, in central Jerusalem to inquire about the availability of a book called Torat Ha'Melech, or the King's Torah, a commotion immediately ensued. "Are you sure you want it?" the owner, M. Pomeranz, asked me half-jokingly. "The Shabak [Israel's internal security service] is going to want a word with you if you do." As customers stopped browsing and began to stare in my direction, Pomeranz pointed to a security camera affixed to a wall. "See that?" he told me. "It goes straight to the Shabak!"

As soon as it was published late last year,Torat Ha'Melech sparked a national uproar. The controversy began when an Israeli tabloid panned the book's contents as "230 pages on the laws concerning the killing of non-Jews, a kind of guidebook for anyone who ponders the question of if and when it is permissible to take the life of a non-Jew." According to the book's author, Rabbi Yitzhak Shapira, "Non-Jews are "uncompassionate by nature" and should be killed in order to "curb their evil inclinations." "If we kill a gentile who has has violated one of the seven commandments… there is nothing wrong with the murder," Shapira insisted.

    Interesting article at alternet

As far as I am concerned, if they want a peace deal in the Middle East the answer is easy. Ship 95% of the Israeli 'settlers' to live with Hamas in a portion of Gaza and leave the fuckers to kill each other, they are as bad as each other.

RTFM. The point is that the US govt don't explicitly & financially support Phelps.

Thinking people of the world accepted long ago that religion is a lot of rot, and anyone who believes it is a lil bit slow.
      Didn't they?
So why do we debate which religious bunch of morons is the dumb ones this week?
They're all as thick as custard, with intellects to match.

Do they not? I'm not saying I have documentary evidence of Governmental support, but don't religious groups usually manage some form of Governmental tax breaks at the very least purely because they're a religious group (irrespective of how stupid their core doctrine is)?

Einstein (for example) was not a thinking person and a bit slow? Interesting.

People who believe stories instead of fact (or even theories backed up by evidence such as evolution) may well be stupid, but that description does not cover all religious people. Nor does it automatically exclude people who are atheists.

"I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religious then it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it." -Albert Einstein, 1954

Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind. Albert Einstein, "Science, Philosophy and Religion: a Symposium", 1941

Einstein believed in Spinoza's version of God and not a God that dabbles in the our daily lives, hence the non-belief in a personal God. He also stated that he was not an atheist.

I'm not quite sure what Naiad is saying. But if he/she/it/them is asking about Government financial support for religion: my understanding is that organisations which promote religion are exempt from taxation. (A position I disagree with most strongly)

      Agreed.

But could we please ship the American evangelists in there too? I mean, if we're going to have a religious blood bath... lets throw all the religious nuts in.

(And put UAN in there too so he can lecture them on human rights)

Also, that Rabbi is a cunt and I hope he gets hit by a bus.

You'll go to some kind of hell for saying that.

Probably. I'm already going to hell anyway, might as well take the express.

You know, that's what pisses me off about fundies. Why should I worship a god who has less compassion than the average pet dog? What's there to worship in that?
