  • Conroy accused of corruption

The federal opposition has labelled as corrupt the process used to appoint a former Labor MP to a highly paid job with the national broadband network.

Mike Kaiser took up the role with the NBN Co - which will build and operate the $43 billion network - after quitting as Queensland Premier Anna Bligh's chief of staff last year.

The appointment of Mr Kaiser, who will earn more than the Prime Minister, has prompted allegations of political interference on the part of Communications Minister Stephen Conroy, who recommended the former state MP for the job.

The opposition's legal affairs spokesman George Brandis says Mr Kaiser is a close, personal friend of the minister and has no previous corporate experience.

"I'm accusing him (Senator Conroy) of interfering in the process to secure this job for one of his mates," he told Sky News today.

"The manner in which this was done is plainly, plainly a corrupted process."

"Kaiser (The appointee) is a former ALP state secretary in Queensland. He was forced to resign as a state MP after revelations about branch-stacking in Queensland Labor.
After working as a key strategist on the ALP's 2004 national election campaign he was chief of staff to the former NSW premier Morris Iemma and then, until late last year, was chief of staff to Queensland Premier Anna Bligh.

      oh and

NBN Co's wages bill for October last year was $1.5 million, it has been revealed to the Senate, meaning the 46 staff employed at the time were being paid an average $391,304 annually, led by chief executive Mike Quigley on $1.95 million.
Staff numbers have since grown to 112, most of which are at the senior levels as the company seeks to put in place the key people to construct the $43 billion fibre-to-the-premises network

"personal friend of the minister"?? As if that's all it is.
How obvious does it have to get, that we're looking at a coordinated infiltration of the government and industry bodies related to internet access in Australia. Small group of arseholes, Conroy and Kaiser among them, acting for 'those who wish to kill the net'. And one of them got appointed to a high up position in the new 'national broadband network'? Oh great.

How many _more_ of these retards are there, and why aren't they being hounded to Hell?

it's usually the liberal party being accused of nepotism (and not without reason) but no one does it quite like queensland labor and therefore now federal labor.

It's probably no coincidence that Conroy and Atkinson have both had stories on corruption recently. These two cockbags probably aren't any worse than any other politician, but their respective stances have made them targets for an angry, motivated people who will go over everything they have done in microscopic detail. Nope, I looked, but couldn't find a single shred of sympathy.
