View Full Version : Get a life!!
Crusing over to a mates house on friday night around 8pm all was good. I parked in his drive way and waited for him to come out. He didnt, so i went in to get him. After saying hi and having a quick chat to everoyne else that was home, we got in my car and left.
To my surprise, i had a fucking parking ticket!! In the middle of suburbia, in a quiet area a fucking $60 parking fine issued by the local council. It states "Parking over a footpath". How pathetic is that!

of course, some group of morons will always think that the cops are wasting their time by keeping people in line for all the laws, nnot jus tthe ones they think are the most important, or that all police are metermaids slash computer detectives slash homocide investigators slash patrolmen..
yes, they have differetn departments and assignments for that
guess you'll think twice before parking there again, or god forbid look at wha tthe hell you're doing. heres an idea, pay the fine and STFU about it you whinging bastard

 Woah. Smackdown.
I'd classify that as a little harsh...
we'll see if it changes next time..
Lets hope you get a fine for being an ass.

Laws are there for a reason.
Think of it this way. What happens if a child walks on the road and gets hit by a car because they walked around a car that was blocking the footpath?
I know you said it was 8pm, but that makes it even more dangerous.

I think that is a little hash, I wouldn’t be impressed. At the same time I wish the cops would get their asses over to my street and give fines to those who park illegally including those who totally block the foot path of with their 4WD.

I think this is more a case of wrong place wrong time. Bad luck fella!
There's probably no easy way to get out of it so all I suggest is to just cop it on the chin. Sure they probably should be spending their time on potentially more life hampering crimes but thems the breaks. I can just see it now "Parking over a footpath - it's not bad luck... IT'S A CRIME!"
Shit happens and this time it happened to you. I hope we've all learned something here today... I'm just not sure what it could be.

It is like those who speed and then wonder why the f%$k they got a speeding fine. If you don't want a ticket then don't do it.

I came by to say hi to Grumblefish.....
...but I also believe that parking violations are the easiest way for a municipality to make fucken money....
... speed traps are REAL common in the States (esp. down south) - I mean, if you ain't got any natural resources or tourism or whatevever - sure! make money outta ppl parking in the wrong meter-and-a-half for 12 or 26 minutes.....
It's just another example of government making money off the middle class..... sorry but that's how I see it and I HATE that shit!!! <-- protest Bug

I have heard recently (last week) from someone in the know that there is a significant backlog on traffic offences. If you write a letter asking for a caution, then they'll eventually respond saying get k=nicked, you still have to pay and you have 21 days. You then respond saying that you'd like to have the matter heard at court. They have to send out a summons within six months of the original offence so if the delay is long enough then they may no longer be able to serve a summons.
Of course, you may wind up in court perjuring yourself with some fanciful story to attempt to get off and there is the added time and court fees that may be incurred. So your kilometrage may vary, I'm not a lawyer etc.

I wasn't aware that there was a law/ By-law against parking over paths, so many people do it, it does annoy me, if it's a residence I tramp through their front yard.
Parking fines are the biggest wank out. I've got 2, both because the signs were is clear view behind trees...
*sigh*
Not fun, but sweet fa you can do about it except be more careful next time...
Commiserations.

I got a $60 fine in st. kilda a couple of years ago when I first moved to melbourne. I went back to see how Id missed the meter & signs. The Sign was vandalised and the meter was 150m away from the spot I parked in and around a slight bend - boy was I impressed!

In most areas in Sydney the parking ticketing has been taken over more and more by the local councils as a way of outsourcing. As most of the sydney councils are so fucking useless at managing their budgets they have resorted to getting income any way they can. Most if the ticketing is done by the "Council Ranger" da dada!!! most of these morons were knocked back by the police and security firms so to sustain their small minded power dreams they become the "Council Ranger" da dada....
I have heard of some of the most rediculous fines being given out by them.
Warringah council is one of the best/worst one of my mates was given a fine for leaving his garbage bin out for a week(appealed because the council had not empied it) Won.
Another of my mates from Warringah after being given a parking fine for parking on the grass out the front of his house, something the family had been doing for years, decided to fight it and lost and was told it was a council foot path. He was also hit with a rise in rates(supposedly for looking after council land/services).
He decided as it was council land he would stop mowing the lawn out the front when the lawn was about a foot long he got another fine for not mowing the lawn. He appealed, went to court, stated he had been fined for parking on council land and as it was theirs they had to look after it,decided to get smart and billed the council for 15 years of looking after their land,Labour, mower parts and fuel.
Court case went on for months, costs were high and he eventually won. It's no wonder the council was sacked.

Yeah I've always wondered why people bother to mow what is technically "council land." Stick it to the man!

(This is especially for those living under Parramatta council but I think a few areas are cracking down on it at the moment.)
In light of something that happened yesterday, I not only take back what I said earlier in this thread but I am also resurrecting this thread.
No less than five minutes after my dad returned from his regular Friday outing with his father, some arse-munching "Council Ranger" was out the front writing a ticket for his car... what for? I'll get to that in a moment.
So anyway, because mum's car was parked halfway down the driveway dad thought, "I'll park up on the nature strip." No biggy. Right? Wrong mother fuckers!
So as soon as we notice Sir Tool-a-lot writing out a ticket we all go out the front to talk to the bastard. He gave my dad a $68 fine for 'parking on the nature strip in a built-up area.'
Now don't get confused. He was not parked on the footpath... that is next to the nature strip... the nature strip that my family has maintained for the last 33 years.
So council ranger boy is standing there with paper and pen telling us how it is a hinderance. Hinderance? To fucking what? Stopping the birds on the telephone lines above from shitting on the grass?
So I says to him, "Haven't you got anything better to do?"
"Yes, and I'd rather be doing it."
Yeah? Well here's our lawnmower fuck-face... Get to work! (wish I had said that).
Anyways, dad's writing a letter to the council appealing it... one main reason being that we live on a somewhat narrow street right on a bend which a lot of people tend to hoon around. So even though cock-gobling council ranger man thinks it would be better for us to park on the road if we don't want to get fined, he is wrong... because if we parked there we would actually be a REAL hinderance to those driving past. And seeing as how our street has particular large nature strips on our side of the street - nature strips which the council does not even use, nature strips which (and I reiterate) we have maintained for the last 33 years - why not park there from time to time? Ingrates!!!
So anyway, to round off the story, Mr. Council Ranger is trying to tell us, "Don't shoot the messenger" and that he's, "Just doing his job." Well if that's the case buddy, then you've been doing a fucking terrible job... 'cause we've been parking there for the last 33 years and this is the first time anyone has ever fined us.

I live in Baulkham Hills and I've known for at least the last four years that it's illegal to park on the nature strip
Not saying I think it's a sensible rule, because frankly I think it's a pretty fucked up rule actually, but yeah :(
I was also fined $153 3 weeks ago for having my MINI mostly parked in a no stopping zone on The Strand in Dee Why at 7am on a Sunday morning by a Highway Patrol Car.
There were like 35 MINI's parked everywhere, and NOBODY else around. There was no parking for ages so I reversed right up against the front of another MINI, and my car was about 2m into the No Stopping zone.
I was eating breakfast when some guys were screaming out "You're getting booked!" and there was a Hwy Patrol car double parked against mine.
I ran straight for the MINI, jumped in, and drove away. The cop did nothing.... Three days later there was an envelope in the post from the Commander of Frenches Forest Police. It had the ticket in it :(
I can handle ~$60 for a parking fine, but $153 is a bit rude. I thought I'd be OK at 7am on a Sunday, but obviously not. Oh well...

This is EXACTLY what happened to my girlfriend. She was pushing her toddler in a stroller and had to go off the footpath because a car was blocking it. The wing mirror of a 4WD clipped her on the back of her head and the force threw the stroller 5 m into a fence.
Cop it sweet and pay the fine and next time think about how your actions might affect others.

I almost got fucked up by a Van once when some jerk decided to park right at the end of his driveway. I came flying around a corner on my rollerblades and had to jump the naturestrip to avoid the car, then narrowly avoided the Van. I'm talking about missing the thing by maybe 2 feet.
I know I should have been on the road in the first place, but it was nothing but pot-holes due to the top-notch council maintainance.

Tip for young players: appeal the decision. Write a letter informing them of the circumstances plus a few plausible, well-thought-out and rational sentences about why you feel that the law has been applied unfairly. Failing that, elect to have the matter heard in court or by an arbitrator. If you are morally in the right you have absolutely nothing to lose except time.
