Hmmm, I thought that a nympho, was someone who had an unslating thirst for sex. No satisfaction as it were.

But according to Websters Dictionary, I could be wrong
Therefor Me, Shadow, SSW among others by this classification would be nymphs AND nymphos!

DEFINITIONS:

nymph
Pronunciation: 'nim(p)f
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English nimphe, from Middle French, from Latin nympha bride, nymph, from Greek nymphE -- more at NUPTIAL
Date: 14th century
1 : any of the minor divinities of nature in classical mythology represented as beautiful maidens dwelling in the mountains, forests, trees, and waters
2 : GIRL
3 : any of various immature insects; especially : a larva of an insect (as a grasshopper, true bug, or mayfly) with incomplete metamorphosis that differs from the imago especially in size and in its incompletely developed wings and genitalia -- compare NAIAD 2
- nymph·al /'nim(p)-f&l/ adjective

nym·pho·ma·nia
Pronunciation: "nim(p)-f&-'mA-nE-&, -ny&
Function: noun
Etymology: New Latin, from nymphae inner lips of the vulva (from Latin, plural of nympha) + Late Latin mania mania
Date: 1775
: excessive sexual desire by a female

But if no satisfaction is a requist then...we are not.

I have known a for REAL nympho. I would not consider myself as such, but some more victorian in manner I guess would.

I think that you are confused.

Nymphomania is actually a term used to describe an 'above average' sex drive in women:Click me (http://www.sexinfo101.com/sd_nymph.shtml)

Calling a woman a 'nympho' is a derogatory comment, mainly used by men, as an insult.

Unless you have been diagnosed with nyphomania, then you are not a nympho.

If you just like sex a lot, then I would say you are simply a liberated female. More power to ya sister!

You could very well be a Nymph if you are: any of the minor divinities of nature in classical mythology represented as beautiful maidens dwelling in the mountains, forests, trees, and waters

or: any of various immature insects; especially : a larva of an insect (as a grasshopper, true bug, or mayfly) with incomplete metamorphosis that differs from the imago especially in size and in its incompletely developed wings and genitalia

or a Girl!

But even your links suggests this is an invalid point:

"Nymphomania
Despite what you may have heard about "Nymphomania", the term is not a valid diagnosis of a condition. The term is used to describe a perceived “above normal” level of sex drive in women. However, there exists no scale to calculate what is “normal”.

Many believe that the word has developed as slang by men to degrade women with a high sex drive. Many men are very self-conscious about their own sex drive, and the thought of a woman having a "better" drive is threatening.

The correct terminology for a perceived excessively high sex drive might include: hyper sexuality, sexual addiction, and sexual compulsivity. Further information on these conditions can be found in the article on sexual addiction. "

So you TOO could be a nympho!

I found this definition of Nymphomania in Collins English Dictionary:

nymphomania
noun: a neurotic condition in women in which the symptoms are a compulsion to have sexual intercourse with as many men as possible and an inability to have lasting relationships with them

And since I have been in a long term relationship for 7 years and am getting hitched in 3 months, that ain't me!

I still like sex though, and I can't stress that point enough!

I jokingly call my gf a nympho, she's had more sexual partners than a lot of guys I know.

She loves having sex, but realisticly it's just a high sex drive. Can't say I'm threatened by it... Slightly tired maybe ;)

Still it's not like she has trouble with manogomy.

I think society is wrong for labelling women poorly if they are sexually liberated !

women with higher sex drive tho ? I think you are back on the 'nymph'/'mythical' realms there !!

I knew a girl once.
She was a Nurse, married.
And a prostitute.

She drove a Mercedes, owned a $300,000 home. And sold herself at night while her husband was at work. She said she couldn't be satisfied. She had orgasms yes, but it wasn't enough. She had sex at least 4 times a day.

Now THAT'S a nympho!

Like that link that was posted previously, a more accurate term for a nympho is a sexual addict. The crappy thing is that sexual addicts don't actually have sex because they want to, in the same way as crack addicts no longer get high because they want to, but because they have to. Sexual addicts have frequently been sexually abused in childhood, and have come to substitue sex for emotional intimacy.

Sorry to suck all the fun out of the conversation, but sexual addiction is actually a very serious disease, since sexual addicts are not choosy about who their partners are, and in fact frequently choose dangerous partners, in order to facilitate their own degredation.

The worst part is, if a sexual addict is raped, they have a difficult time getting anyone to take their claims seriously, since they are usually the ones who initiate the sexual encounter. There's nothing good about an addiction, not even when it's to sex.

There is nothing wrong with sexual addiction.

And nymphomania does not neccessarily equal sexual addiction.
You can be a monogamous, self controlled, nymphomaniac.

Please send me pm if you fit this description btw.

Actually there is a lot wrong with sexual addiction. Sexual addicts don't get any sexual pleasure from intercourse, but still feel compelled to repeat the act, frequently several times a day.

And since the addiction is a symptom of deep depression and suicidal tendencies, sexual addicts often don't use contraception and don't care about who they sleep with. It's actually a form of self abuse to them.

It's important to distinguish between sexual addicts and people (like me :) ) who just have a high sex drive.

My vote goes for "suicidal".
This entire article reminded me of Empress Nympho from 'History of the World Part One', a Mel Brooks movie. She was a classic.
