View Full Version : Travel to Australia

I have become enamoured with certain Australians.
And irregardless of the "kill American" attitude of some thought, well, lets see how much airfare is.

:swear:

Unless I win the lotto or money just falls from the sky, I'll be going to the Bahamas or Hawaii instead.

$3000 fucking dollars for a 24hour flight to Australia. WTF man!
That's just god damned ridiculous! I could get a 5 day cruise around Bill Clinton's ass for that, and HE'D pay for the cigar!

where are you travelling from and which part of Australia to you want to go to?

rates are a bit cheaper if you select dates a month or so in advance. right now travelocity (http://www.travelocity.com) has rates at about $1,600 round trip from Atlanta to Sydney.

this is about right since you are going to have to pay to get to los angeles which is the jumping off point for sydney. the LAX to Sydney flight runs about $1,000 - which is almost exactly what i paid a year ago.

pretty much that cost stays the same for if you stay a month. if you go you should really stay the whole time. i was only going to be there two weeks but, thankfully, several of the geeks pitched in and got me to stay the duration. it was well worth it.

i'm sure there are deals that are even cheaper than this (once, a LOOONGG time ago i saw a LAX to Sydney ticket for $800) but i don't know exactly where to look for them. perhaps there are other geeks out there that might be able to assist in this endeavor?

LAX -> SYD return $804.00, malaysian air.
ATL -> SYD return $1183.00, aa

Yahoo travel is the best travel site.
As long as you don't have set dates, travel is cheap.

hahaha, earlier this year I travelled from Australia through former French Indo-China, the Middle East, Europe, and then North America for a grand total of somewhere between 1500 to 1600 Australian dollars. The United States of America is pathetic when it comes to buying airplane tickets, it disgusts me how much those filthy Yankee travel agencies think they can charge, not to mention the webpages!

Go, go team Vietnam Airlines!

I looked at yahoo and Orbitz both for the Sept. date.

I might could swing the $1000 first of the year...but it'd still be tight
I bet I could finds some lodgings:p ;)

I'll keep me eyes out mate
Thanks guys!

Find some local bucket shops.

something google spat out (http://www.travel-library.com/air-travel/consolidators.html)

I quote
"bucket-shop advertising is concentrated in the Sunday travel sections of the San Francisco Chronicle and Examiner, Miami Herald, New York Times, and Los Angeles Times. There are ads for discounted international tickets in newspapers in many other regional and local USA cities, but one can often get better deals from the agencies that advertise in the largest gateway cities. This is especially true for travel to less common destinations (i.e. outside North America or Europe),..."

Alternatively, try contacting your local large Uni & see if their student travel agent can do someting for you.

If you take Malaysian Airlines, you'll probably stopover at Kuala Lumpur. If so, contact me, we can go for some satay.

.. now let me get the rules straight .. when kleph the yank goes off thread and talks about "ahmerikan football" that is ok .. but when anybody responds to that it has to be moderated .. is that the way american moderator democracy works kleph ?? .. now if you travelled to Aus you would find a much more tolerant and open minded lot who gladly discuss all codes of football .. I suggest you travel to Melbourne to see an Aussie Rules match at the MCG then up to Sydney for a Bledisloe Cup Rugby Union match between Aus and NZ and then on to Brisbane for a State of Origin Rugby League match at the new Lang Park stadium .. feel free to discuss the relative merits of these codes viz a viz american football with any of the fans you encounter at the games .. I suggest you base yourself in Newcastle during your trip where on any weekend you can take in all three codes at a local level .. geezuz mate we even have one of those teams that plays that nancy-boy Rugby here .. you could go see what Downunder gridiron is like .. come on down Kleph ..
