Americans are the most cocky of all creatures on this planet. They think that just because they are the richest country they have the right to do as they please. They also think that they are the best at everything. Now lets take sports for an example. they think they are the best at all sports. And maybe they are really good, but that's only because they have money. And also because most sports that they are the best at were invented in America. Baseball, Basketball, American Football. Football, they had to name one of their own sports the name that the most popular sport of all time had. They decided to give football the name soccer, even though their football has hardly anything to do with the foot. :swear: Well if you have any thing to say about americans you should post it here.

BTW - they would *appear* to be the "richest country" on the planet... but in actuality, Nixon took us off the gold standard in 1972 (indeed, that mean american dollars are backed up with Bupkiss) whereas Australia even had a surplus a coupla years ago...

As far as *I* know - america hasn't had a balanced budget in years more than I been alive... There is a HUGE billboard in Times Square with a digital counter than goes up by fractions of seconds that shows our nation's debt; and what they announce as "Your family's share" which last time I rolled past was in the neighborhood of $23,000 /year....

But the rest of the guys got a point, this whole america bashing thing has been done to death..... I should know ;)

The United Satates is a good idea that doesn't work to well and is full of all sorts of bugs (just like miyoursoft software)

Americans in groups are frighteningly stupid, arrogant, annoying, ill-informed and americentric (funnily enough)

Individually they are lovely, friendly, generous and funny

I feel that, since I'm an American, my opinion would be quite biased on this topic, therefore, whatever I say would be shit. However, since I'm an American, I felt that I should say something or else I would be shit. It's an ultimate paradox,...but I seem to have developed an affinity for China,...so all I can say about my "homeboys",...is I agree to most all counts, that the majority of Americans don't think about the rest of the world....atleast I know they don't in Ohio....however,...the only nation I hold any pointless aggression towards is France...not because they don't agree with G. I reckon it's become obvious to you newbie americans that we aren't exactly the most popular ppl on ZG, but then again - what's respected here is the truth...

One thing America (ok, lemme capitalise the name for once :P) gave me is my freedom, ok? The freedom to disagree with my government, not to vote, not to do shit but leave; which I was legally allowed to do. For the record, I've lived here in Australia for almost 3 yrs now and am totally happy living in western Sydney subs. But then again, I was *allowed* to leave & take my pension with me...

I wish all disgruntled, abused, or neglected ppl had the same option; I am lucky. And I don't deny it. There but for the grace .... etc., goes I...

So, bash the american ideal all you want; just don't bash the actual *people* involved... Some of us are ok!! ;)

Doesn't make it any more palitable to swallow, but... in a lot of ways I am glad I spent my young life in america. Makes you appreciate the rest of the free world; esp the Australian healthcare system.

If it weren't for that, my bf (who was born british btw but moved to Perth @ 3 mos old) would have a REALLY rough time of it -- the maintenance health care for him is through the roof; and if he were american; he'd have to come up with the $ himself.

Make no mistake; america IS the land of opportunity; if you are *starting* your life! Free education, freedom of speech & career (without having to have credentials up to gazoo like here) in other words - if you're the best man for the job; fuck it! you got it! and probably a hell of a salary as well....

But, g-d forbid, do not get old or sick or homeless in america; because then - you're on your own...

I will be the first to admit I have the best of both worlds in my life (although I am totally NOT entitled, nor do I take any $ from the Australian health fund)... though it's nice to know I've found a place I can (hopefully!) live in peace for the rest of my life.

What concerns me as much as you, is the ultimate collapse of the american society, the dollar, etc.... What is to become of the rest of the world when that happens? Sometimes I have visions... and the fate of america don't look too good...

Esp. if ppl re-elect GWBush. Let's give him a clear message just like his dad "Ok, you wangled one term outta us, but you ain't getting another, you fucken war-monger you"... see Simpsons episode of GeorgeBush senior if you wanna know how great minds think alike....

And that's my 2 cents worth (although we don't *have* pennies in Australia anymore) so I guess it'll have to cost me a 5 cent piece!!! :p

i wouldn't go as far as to say that America sucks,...i don't know about other folks...but i feel pretty damn lucky...i do agree that you can dislike whatever decisions the government makes, politics blah blah blah...but i don't think i'll ever make that broad sweeping statement that "America Sucks" (just because i sited it, doesn't mean i'm making it)...sure I have problems with some things, whether it be issues involving the Iraq war, Kosovo conflict, Vietnam, Korean War...and I find it quite interesting how many provinces or territories the usa has and most americans know nothing about them...basically because they are used purely for military purposes....and most of these provinces/territories are small islands...and for some reason i highly doubt that whoever the original inhabitants of these islands were, got a fair shake in the end...basically i'm a fellow who enjoys a low profile,...and i happen to live in, what is currently, the world's largest super power...parts of it are a bitch...feeling like most all other countries of the world hate you for one...but I'm not going to use a pansy ass excuse like soccer-moms in SUVs to tell an international body of people, that my home sucks...and from my posts in the past, i'd like to think that i have pretty much painted myself as somebody not too ready to spew propaganda for the imperial usa..what with my constant criticisms of my government and what-not...but if somebody from Seattle wants to bitch enough to just say their country sucks...it's not too far a walk up North to beautiful Canada...nothing in Canada is improper i'm sure,...and nobody in Canada owns an SUV...what with all that vast back country they got...

Mexicans, i am sorry i am one. Well i hate the steryotypical mexican. Baggy clothes, realy low rider cars, with wierd gothic letters or grafitty type letters on their shirts. I can't stand beeing around them. Ask jmello or startreker if you wish. I don't have a grudge against the ones who actually come to work to support their families, and only to support their families.(illegaly). I am a legal Mexican alien, i have lived here for about 9 noncontinuos years. This is my home, and I hate seeing mexican houses. My parents even hate the stereotypical mexican american house. We actually keep our house in good shape. We came up here because my dad wanted to get a better eductaion, and he did he got a Ph.D from the University of Arkansas, and he has always wanted to go work in mexico. He had the opportunity this summer, he was going to get a job as a proffesor at a university, but they said he was too old. How the freak can you be too old. Oh well. I am not mad that not all my relatives can come live up here, instead I wish some of my family would go back to Mexico, or at least change a little. So there.

Only the crappy parts of Canada are cold, come to Vancouver... we only had one day of snow last year... its between 10 and 20 degrees celcius all year long, (except for about 2-3 months in the summer when its 20-35 and 2-3months in the winter when its -5 to 10 or so)

Judging by your lacking ability to form coherent thoughts and create meaningful sentences in proper paragraph form your probably a fan of the type of books where the pictures pop up.

I'm not tagging anyone into one group. I believe you and lmeyer are different a different kind of dumb. Lmeyer doesn't even know where the hell he is where as you just know what you're talking about. I've never once stated that I was for the war in Iraq, however I never said I was against it either. I stepped back and analyzed the situation for what it was instead of deciding I didn't like it based off some knee jerk reaction. I don't see that as patriotism, but you may take the same ultra liberal view of that word as you do of the word "rational".

Saying that Britans Empire would still be alive today is quite wrong. What if the spanish took over all of America, what if Britain sold America to other countries, because the original colonies were not that huge of an economic gain to Britain.

Back then the wars were common things, it was kind of a glorious thing to go and fight for one's country. Whos to say that France, Spain, Germany(Prussia), Russia wouldn't get into a war with Britain. Also remember that the British were weakened by the French & Indian war (that's what it is called here for those of you who know it as the Seven Years war), some othere country not participating in this war could have waged war on england. Trekker, all i'm saying is that the world would be different if the revolution had not been succesfull, but it wouldn't necesserally be worse than it is, it could even be better.

Hmmmmmm, Australia WAS a target. Growing up in Darwin there are constant reminders that the Japanese blew the fuck out of Darwin. Go down to any beach in Darwin and there are signs of defensive structures. Head 15 minutes out of town and there are many WW2 era runways that were used to defend the invaders.
There were more planes and bombs used against Darwin than there were on Pearl Harbour.

Trekker, the truth is if America would not have won it's independece everything would be different. Who's to say that the World Wars would go on. What if the British King retained the power he had back then, and there would have been no Churchill. Most there would be no Hitler, and without him it would have been difficult to unite the Germans in the antisemetic feelings they had. First of all think of WHERE all the people came from that became Americans! I myself live on the border of USA and Canada and also live next to and Indian Reservation, and I see these beautiful people everyday. I get so angry when I hear about what the "white man" as they call it, did to the natives so many years ago. To this day the Native Americans are still trying to get just part of their land back. Guess who is preventing it? The government! It's all about money, they want to tax them on their own land. How rediculous can it get? So you see, life in the USA is not all peaches and cream BUT remember that WE ALL came here from other countries, the Native Americans were here first and look what WE ALL did to them!!
