View Full Version : Should I Get a 3 Mobile Phone?
I know that a few of you have a Three phone. I went to look at their offerings yesterday as I just got my yearly bonus and I want to blow it on a piece of technology.
They had a Motorola A920 (http://www.three.com.au/index.cfm?section=Explore&pid=450&pageid=481&sid=854) and a NEC e808N (http://www.three.com.au/index.cfm?section=Explore&pid=450&pageid=481&sid=855) . They showed me the Motorola which looked nice enough, though a little large, and had all the features.
They had the usual inducements like $400 rebate for porting my number to $300 towards a phone upgrade in 12 months. The dude gave me the spiel and when I asked about the call dropouts, SMSs not getting through and the general bad press that their network had received he brushed me off and said, predictably, "I have never experienced any problems with my 3 phone".
So I ask you all to please give me your views.
Should I get a Three phone or not?

How can I put this simply? Don't be a fucking moron. Get something else.
The less people that feel the pain I do, the better.

Noooooo!!!!!! three blows goats. I had three, I got it the day before Mr Thingy and today marks the day when I get my new non-three phone because I just got fed up with the shit from three. Avoid it.. at least for a few years until the tech improves.
Trust me!

I haven't gotten a dropped call in about a month and a half. The phones they're offering at the moment are big, and it has to be said that particular versions of the NEC software are a little buggy, but a phone restart isn't the end of the world.
I haven't had a good look at that Motorola handset, but it looks kinda cool. I don't think that the NEC handset they're offering is really all that good to be honest, so either go with the Motorola or wait for a new series of handsets to come out.
I've used the phone more in the last two and a half months than I've ever used a phone before; my last bill was $11.10 and the current one is $8.24.
So yeah - make your own mind up, I guess. My overall view after two months is still very positive, and I'd recommend it with the qualification that you should get them to let you play with the handset before you buy it.
Seems like a reasonable cross section of views.
I will stick with my GSM.
Thanks.

3 words - Buggy, buggy, buggy.
Our office have a collection (9 Handsets) of the worst Motorola mobile phones ever conceived - the A920s. When you make a phone call out and are swapping between carriers (usually Vodafone to 3 or vice versa) the call would just drop. You'd "write" your text msg - send it and lo and behold you'd have to turn your phone off to reset it as the screen would get "stuck". Battery life is appalling - to counter this they give you two, but what a pain to ensure that both are charged for the day.
3 were so kind to upgrade my phone to the abysmal A835 with features that include;
* Phone call drop out
* Phone lock up - take the battery out to reset and still have a residual picture of an active screen
* Poor Battery life
* 12 submenus to send one pissy sms
* The Indian Helpdesk from hel...well actually India.
Don't be "One of The Others" stick to 2G until they can get it right!

Hmmm, that seems very cheap. I pay $50 a month for my plan, and that includes a phone payment of $25 for another 8 months. What kind of plan are you on. I think once I finish my phone repayments with my phone I might go onto a cheaper plan because I really dont use my phone much.
What??! With my crazy social life??!!
Oh, and I have an awesome Nokia 3650. I have porn movies on my phone too.

I have one and in the UK at least, when it works it is good but 90% of the time it doesn't, it has crappy coverage and you may as well not bother until they have a better network coverage
If I hadn't got mine for nowt I'd be pissed off!

I've never had a problem with 3. Been using them for about 3 months now, I use their data service reasonably heavily, and 3 are the only ones with an affordable data service at the moment.
