Does anyone remember the controversy with mountain dew?

I remember when I was little my paretns wouldnt let me drink it because apparantly it had some chemical that (slowly) makes you sterile (infertile). Was it yellow number 5? I don't know if it was all a childhood dream or not, its all a bit fuzzy now.

heard the same thing. But you'd have to have drank mountain dew almost daily for years to go sterile.

Caffein can lower sperm count, Yellow #5 wouldn't have that effect but with most commercial food dyes being petroleum based there's a good chance it's a carcinogen.

Red & blue dye's are.

I have just had an inspiration for a new advertising slogan.

Mountain Dew: The Lazy Man's Condom.

Excessive consumption of caffeine in any form though can really lower sperm count, doesn't shrink anything, Mountain Dew in Aus doesn't contain caffeine thaough.

this is a pretty persistant rumor an i recall hearing it as far back as the early 1980s.

if you notice, all the mountain dew ads have verile fellows doing manly antics like skateboarding out of airplanes and performing james bond-esque maneuvers in their hot rods and similar shit. earlier ads would have guys with lots of chicks jumping into swimming ponds with all that glorious post 70s advertising innuendo. the only ads more overtly about sex i can think of were the Salem cigarette billboards.

personally, i can't decide if this advertising tactic bolsters the limp-dick theory or is simply an effort to sway the public opinion.
