For a game that I was so looking forward to playing on PC, I was so let down.
I never played the Xbox version, but i was pretty pissed off when microsoft bought bungie and turned Halo into an xbox-only game for so long.
I got an, erm, evaluation copy last weekend. I finished the game the other night and I was left unfulfilled.
I mean, there was so much hype for this game, I was expecting it to be so good. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad game, it's just, well, ordinary. You only get to hold two different weapons at a time, and in whole, there are only about 6 different guns in total.
Maybe multiplayer (which I haven't played yet) is where it is at in this game, because the single player mode was pretty ordinary. I wouldn't recommend people buy this game, unless the multiplayer side turns out to be amazing stuff...

I agree. After being told this was on the best games on the xbox for multiplayer, i felt it was utter shit. For one the controls suck, the whole x-box controller sucks. Its the crapest fucking controller in the god damn fucking world and with the settings that the game gives for the use of it, its a fucking joke. The only thing i liked in this game was the ability to get in the Bugies and drive around but i never got the chance to run over anyone :(

I was actually referring to the PC version, so I wasn't using the xbox controller, was using a keyboard and mouse, but still....
The vehicles were a let down. Mainly because there just weren't enough times for you to use them. Besides, there were better vehicles in games like Red Faction 1 & 2, and Tribes 2.
Although, you could do phat drifties in the buggies.... hehehe

I saw it yesterday and was very unimpressed with the level design. It was as if the designers had about 3 or 4 standard room models and built the map using a for loop.

Additionally the game wasn't running as well as I would expect (on a p4 3ghz + geforce something fast etc.) considering the graphics werent hugely impressive. The sound effects were lacking considering the current competittion, and the atmosphere was nowhere even close to half-life (day one).

Overall, an average to acceptable fps that is of no real consequence on the PC platform.

Yeah, I've played it as well and I didn't think it was anything special....everyone was always raving about it being the best Xbox game ever...i guess the xbox is in worse shape than I thought (and I already thought it sucked) BF1942 is a better game by far (I'm addicted to it as for now)

I also agree with COVER (I'm too lazy to reach for the number keys as of now) about the atmosphere if the game...Half-Life I could get into....Halo, was just...eh.....ok....

Heh... after hearing that it was a big release on the Xbox, I was all set to buy the PC version.

Thanks for saving me $89.95, guys. :D

i'm sure the version you gusy were using was the 1.5beta? if so, there's not surprise the framerate is lousy

I got the final version last Friday, the frame rate is ok and I thought the graphics were fantastic, particularly the bump mapping on the ice.

no, i have the full version
I dont have any problems with framerates. Actually, that was really the only good thing about this game, it runs really well, even on my out-dated system.

The best thing about the game IMO was the water modelling (ripples etc). I think the level designers and the texture mappers let down the programmers.

They weren't lying. It was the best game for the XBox back then (since the game was practically released when the XBox was, so you're talking about a pretty small field to choose from).

It was also a good FPS.....for a console. For anyone who has a computer and played FPS' on that, well, only Daikatana could disappoint more on a hype / reality ratio.

I have an Xbox. I don't own halo. I've played it. Been through most of it in the co-op mode. Thought it was okay, nothing special. Graphics were nice for when they came out - especially considering the relative limitations of the xbox hardware compared to PC.

Multiplayer? Maybe if you linked three or four xboxes together and played that way. It's like Goldeneye, except much less entertaining. Although, the two-weapons thing does stop people from having an ass-womping stockpile....

Any FPS on a console will suffer from the game pad controls. I consider Mechassault to be a much better game, except that mechassault won't let you custom your mechs and the movement kinetics are totally arcade-like, not a simulation type at all. KOTOR is worthwhile, as is Splinter Cell (except that's out for everything now...)

So halo is coming out for PC? It damned well better run on hardware that matches the xbox specs - which is to say p3-700MHz or better w/ 128mb ram and a GeForce II. Shitty time to release it, when you consider that Half-life 2 and Doom 3 are imminent. And Halo 2. that comes out, what, november?

bah.

I've got both versions.

The PC conversion is really lousy... i'm not happy with the frame-rate and i have:

- 2.0ghz
- Geforce 4
- 512 DDR

The X-box version is sooooo much better :( :)

odd.
I only have a P4 1.3GHz, GeForce 4MX and 384MB RDRAM and i had no problems with the frame rate except for about 3 places in the game

Hmm curious, We want Halo but by the sounds of it I might wait for a ummm demo version. :)

MisterBishi do you play any of these games?

Tribes2
BF1942
Quake3
UT2003
Vietcong
Counter Strike with the Enhancement Pack.

I guess halo is a bit like a mix of Tribes2 and BF1942. If you play these games how does it stack up against them. Also how many servers/people are about? Anyone else got input as well. I hate wasting money on average games. And from what i've heard it is OK but not worth it.

BTW I am only interested in online experiences. Any game is pathetic against Bots.

Single Player is dongs, but multiplayer is alright.

Straight Deathmatch i found to be pretty boring, the mods that it comes with are pretty fun to play, especially 8 ball.

Mind you a lot of weed was involved whilst playing.

I'm even more pissed now.

I've just realised that they've removed the co-op mode...
