Hi there :)

OK so we've got a DV camera at work with firewire and all that, but we want to put the output onto VHS care of a PC, since we muck around with the AVI in Ulead hooziwhat.

Any tips on what hardware we need to get the pic back out onto VHS?

Thanks :)

jsut need RCA TV-Out, or S-Video with a an S-Video input on VCR or S-Video to RCA adaptor

most new video cards come with s-video ports, or possibly a tv capture care might have RCA out

or you should be able to use the firewire to export back on to the tape on the DV cam, then hook the DV cam up to the VCR and do it that way, bgut the first method is preferrable methinks

Righto thanks for all that :)

Do you have to use any special player, or just Windows Media Player in full screen or something? I used to have an old video out on some voodoo card, but it used to roll around something shocking on the video.

the best way is to output the video back to the DV camera via firewire and then play it from there to the VCR.
All computer tv out systems tend to give pretty poor results on a VCR, and you're using a software codec to play the video rather than the DV camera's high quality hardware.

Thanks for all the comments - yeah I agree sorta with going through the camera for playback, but it's a pest having to dub to DV tape then from there to VHS... apparently the camera won't output RCA while receiving Firewire, but I'm not sure as I haven't tested it to be sure.

Would something like this - http://www.tech-report.com/reviews/2003q3/ati-aiw9800pro/index.x?pg=1 - be worthwhile, or same problems?

Cheers!

At work we run the s-cable straight from the computer to the dvd or vhs player.
