Greetings all.

OK, here's the deal. I live in Canberra/Australia. A notoriously boring city. To add to that, I work in a very conservative environment.
I recently got out of a long-term relationship and many of my friends have moved-on (interstate etc).

The end result is that I'm bored. Bored bored bored. Does anyone in these forums know of interesting things to do inthis town?
Where are all the fun people? Where have all the damn raves and live acts gone? All the clubs and pubs are swimming with 17yo J-Lo wannabes and it just totally lowers the tone of the place.

HELP! I need fresh people to talk to!
I'm afraid I'm going to have to move to find *interesting* and FUN people to be around.

The only fun thing I'm looking forward to is StoneFest (big rave - 31st Oct). But even then, most of my current friends work in hospitality and are working the entire weekend.

Anyone here going?

yeah, i'm in for stonefest, looks good this year

for reference:
rock climbing in mitchell is $6 with a 2-for-1 with a mate on fridays and tuesday, 2-for-1's can be had from oporto's in civic with any purchase

the lazy boy cafe in belco is good any night for lans

monday night is league night @ zone 3 laser tag, also in belconnen

Tilley's Devine cafe (http://www.tilleys.com.au/) in lyneham is the shit, all the time, esp. on weekends, and has no j-lo wannabes

Toast is ok of a late afternoon and there's a tiny pub called the Phoenix in the civic interchange which is cool if you can find it

but failing all this, do what I do and fuck off to sydney to hang with the zwood crew all weekend ;)

hey, if you're in civic we should hook up for coffee @ lunch or something, pm me.

I'll be down there next weekend for the OCAU cruise (http://forums.overclockers.com.au/showthread.php?s=&threadid=212074). Should join up with everyone. Maybe even do some other ZGeek thing later that evening if other Canberra ZGeekers are up for it?

Oh, moving this thread to Event Ideas.

Edit: Putting details of the cruise in here:

As the weather is getting nicer and nicer, I thought I'd organise a group ride / drive (depending on your orientation)!

Start Point: Parkes Place, down on the lake for some nice photos in the am (http://awl.everythinglan.com/etc/soc/startlocation.gif)

Destination: Bateman's Bay. (Well, a fish and chippery in the south of bateman's bay. I'll have map's ready on the day)

Date: 25th October.

Departure Time: 10:30am Sharpish... Rock up about 10 and have a chat, and get a copy of the map.

Route: Leaving from Parkes Place, we'll head out to queanbeyan (past kingston, fyshwick) From Queanbeyan, head toward Bungendore, then braidwood, and through the Clyde.

At the other end of the clyde, the leaders will park and wait for the remaining part of the group to catch up. (or at least some will to make sure everyone gets through to the end.)

Go to the fish and chippery, and if it's nice and warm, find a beach where we can swim! (for those of us who are capable. :P )

Everyone's invited so if you wish to bring along the missus, or a mate, please do so.

Please email me at soc@quost.com and when if there is any updates, and a few days before we go, I'll send out a reminder email!

Hey sweet!

Not only do I now have ideas for things to do, but I also met a really nice girl at a party on saturday!

She's cooking me dinner tomorrow night. Wish me luck people!

iaidoka: Yeah. It's the city of pr0n. But it's not as exciting as you might think...

still life: Sure, I'm up for coffee etc... Always a pleasure to meet a fellow code monkey... But it'll have to wait till after I work out where dinner leads...

Wish I knew. There will be alcohol involved and that is all you need to know!

Yes a venue has yet to be decided.

Well, we need a Canberra geek to come up with something as we don't have everyone's contact details (I only have Still Life's & Chocoholics).

Come on, one of you get off your slack arses and pick somewhere for us to go dinner and/or drinking Saturday night! Chocoholic & I need entertainment! :D

If this had happened *last* weekend, you could have had the pleasure of Stocking's company cos she was in Canberra then (albeit not feeling well after picking up a tummy bug on the plane... my poor darling!)

Anyway, can I recommend a really good pub in Canberra? It's called The Wig & Pen and is in Civic (can't remember which street, but believe it's in either the Sydney or Melbourne building - dogwomble knows where it is) ... anyway, they make their own beers, have a great range and have even won awards for them. It's a brilliant place to go for a few drinks.

Food wise, tehre are a lot of terrific places to choose from, it really just comes down to your budget.

It's opposite fujitsu, for all the geeks here. :)

I'm sure I'd make an appearance anywhere people suggest.
Beers sounds good... Though I'm more a JD man.

Please post afterwards, letting us know what beers you had and what you thought of them - maybe in the beer thread? I'd be interested to read your opinions.

There's enough pictures of myself & Still Life in the events gallery for us to be recognisable. I've also PM'd you both my mobile number so check your PM inbox. I have chocoholics number, so it's just Dogwomble who we're unsure about.
