All of you have no doubt been recipients of chain e-mails from well-meaning but ignorant friends who use the 'To:' or 'cc:' fields when they should be using the 'bcc:' field. The mails often have a subject line like FWD: fwd: [Fwd: Pass this on!!!]. These e-mails invariably end up in the hands of spammers, along with a massive harvest of fresh e-mail addresses. :swear:
THIS PRACTISE MUST BE STOPPED!
On many occasions I have had to fire off a few harsh words to my ignorant friends who perpetuate these stupid mails. I have been thinking about strategies for tackling this problem.
I have come to the conclusion that educating one person at a time is not enough.
What I am advocating is identifying the ignorant forwarders (from the e-mail itself) and sending them a standard educational e-mail about this subject.
Is this ethical or am I lowering myself to the spammer's level?
Is this a good idea?
What should the standard e-mail say and how should it be worded?
I think it would be a good method of targeting the education. What do u think?
