DFI lanparty NFII nforce2 ultra 400 chipset
Athlon XP2600+
2 x 512mb PC2700 DDR Ram (dual channel enabled)
Gigabyte ATI Radeon 9000 pro
Hercules Fortissmo3 7.1
WinXP pro.
Ok, all windows service packs and security updates have been applied, as well as DX 9b. Mobo was shipped with the latest drivers and Bios. Sound card had latest drivers applied. Tried the Catalyst 3.8, and they were horrible (constant crashes and BSOD's). Went backwards to 3.7, then 3.6, and the so far all 3d games crash after roughly 2 minutes of gameplay.
The only new things in all of this is the mobo/ram/cpu. All the other hardware works fine. cnc generals just says "serious fault" and after trying all of EA's possible solutions, nothing works. Postal2 crashes as well, with an almost completely different error message each time. Both games have been tried with both the original install and the latest patches.
nVidia and DFI have nothing on their site to suggest any compatability problems, or for that matter any problems at all. ATI and gigabyte also have nothing in their FAQ's even vaguely related to my problems. The only thing that hercules has that is related is about IRQ sharing, but no IRQs are shared.
What is really annoying is that in the 2 minutes that I am playing the games, they look amazing. I've never seen them look so good, or run so smoothly. *tears hair out*
HELP!
PLEASE!
