Question regarding forums

I have been here for a while (though didn't see the Newb forum straight up so I missed my introduction to zgeek) though something has me confussed.

those little envelope icons next to threads. There seems to be a number of different states these threads can be in, just wondering what each icon means. I suppose I could look at the image name and get it from that but that sunds too much like werk.

if you open a particular forum (say, general) and scroll down to the bottom of the page, an answer will be forthcoming.

A dot on the icon will indicate that you have made a post in that thread.
