Does anyone know how to save a MMS stream?

Windows Media Player (obviously) doesn't give me that option (one of the few benefits that QuickTime Pro has), and GetRight can't connect using the MMS protocol.

Yeah, I just downloaded GMMS.

It won't download the stream I want. Just loads the CPU up and does a whole bunch of not downloading.

I tested it on their suggested stream, and it worked fine (but then it would, wouldn't it?).

Sometimes the stream isn't a genuine stream but only a file disguised as one. In these cases I have managed to grab it with wget by just changing the mms:// to http://

It doesn't work always but is worth a shot. At worst you will get a file with another URL in it.

Some full duplex sound cards support recording and playback at the same time, but additionally have an option in the "recording mixer" to record the output channel. Using such a card, you should be able to record the audio output - it's not a true digital copy by the time it's gone through this process; but given it's a stream to start with I don't think that'll matter.

.. or add another sound card and loop 'em :)

'Sockles.

I believe he needs the video part too.

Hmm - maybe one day I can lose this dial-up mindset ;-)

Tried that. No good. I knew it was a stream with the way it was buffering each time I tried to listen to it, since it wasn't caching.

I'll work something out - I want this track.

I've used ASFRecorder (http://sourceforge.net/projects/asfrecorder/) many a time to get ASF streams. Unfortunately, it does not work all of the time with the mms protocol.

However, Net Transport should be able to do what you want to do, and it's a freeby. Get it from http://lycos26486.l78.lycos.com.cn/default.htm

If that doesn't work, HiDownload(HD) should also do the job. You can get a free 50-day eval version from http://www.hidownload.com/
