I like them, which is weird, since you usually think my taste in music is 'ghey' :D

I just listened to the new album (Room on Fire) all at once for the first time and it's cool, better than Is This It if you ask me.

the strokes were hopelessly overhyped when they came out but proved to be a damn good band despite it. if you seriously dig their music you should also check out the underground new york bands that inspired them like television (http://forums.zgeek.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5970&perpage=15&pagenumber=4) and the velvet underground (http://forums.zgeek.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5970&perpage=15&pagenumber=8). if you really get into it you prolly should pick up a stooges record as well.

In a kind of reversal of the old "I liked xxxx when they were underground" cliche, I didn't notice any of the hype because I watch very little TV - especially music TV - and rarely listen to radio or even buy magazines, although I vaguely remember GirlGeek mentioning them in a "Is Rock the new Rock" thread.

After borrowing and copying it some time in 2002, I only heard 'Is this it' (2001) in the last few months. I really am that crap. :o

I've seen you pimp Velvet Underground before and keep meaning to check it out, I must remember to.

i left all my music at home when i came to peru. i've heard some really good stuff here but, since i don't speak the language, i have no idea what it was.

a friend who was in south america put me onto manu chau, she said he was pretty popular down there, and he definitely rocks but that was a while ago.

i like the strokes. Its makes up part of the very little rock I actually listen to. I didn't see any hype. I got a copy coz my friend said "Here. this is good". He is like that (he had bought the first Gorillaz album before it was being played on radio).

I must say Rocket Science rock seriously hard.
