Official reports say that, Duke Nukem Forever, May infact Never be released!. The Duke has been lost in a sea of media endused norsia never to be seen again.
We, the gamers, are left with the full realisation that the Duke has most likely hung up his boots and shacked up with a few of either the Playboy bunnies or Lara Croft, the later left to speculation.
My question - what happened to the Duke?
And are we likely to see a similar situation with the Titles Doom3 and Half-Life2???

Where do you start?
Bad management. Constant switching of game engines. Malable design documentation.
I'd say it's very unlikely that we'll ever see Duke Nukem Forever.
I don't think this will happen with Quake 3 and Half Life 2 (mainly because they make the engines).

Even if we never get duke forever, in a few years if its officially dead someone will get the rights or they'll finally amke a brand new one, new development or something.

Games piss me off when they are advertised and hyped up years in advance. Sure I guess I want to hear about new games, but not something I can't play for another years time or longer.
All the fucking time release dates get pushed back. Is anything ever released on time?
Fucking gimp game media advisers.

I know that HL2 and Doom3 will be released but we have been waiting a hell of a long time!, especially for DOOM3, now over 1 1/2 years since first hitting the media!.
Half-Life 2 will be awesome... cant wait

From the DNF FAQ
1.9 - Why has DNF been in development for over 4 years?
Development on DNF originally started after 3D Realms got the Quake 2 engine in December 1997. Prior to that they experimented with Quake I technology until Quake II tech was available. The Quake I part was not considered actual development on DNF, if anything just R&D on potentially using Quake technology. The reason why they seem to be so late is because they switched engines in the middle of development to the Unreal engine and have added lots of new features to it. This obviously takes its toll on the timeframe. The only thing that remained the same when they made the switch to Unreal tech was the textures, all maps and meshes were redone.
1.11 - When will DNF be released?
DNF will be released "When It's Done." What this means is that 3D Realms will not release the game until they are sure it is the best first person shooter ever. There is no exact date, and any dates currently offered by anyone are purely speculation.
1.12 - Why is DNF taking so long?
While this question constantly comes up from concerned fans, the fact is that the game is not taking as long as it may seem. As stated by several 3D Realms employees numerous times, quality games simply take time. What has been taking the most time is all of the optimizations and additions 3D Realms has been making. In the words of George Broussard, "The fact is that we're not massively delayed. Going to Unreal did set us back, but mainly because we refused to be a TC and not advance tech. We added LOD, skeletal animation, motion capture, and tons of other little enhancements to the Unreal engine to make it more interactive. That all takes time."
Level designer Stephen Cole has also commented on this issue: "If DNF was a TC, it would be done by now. Levels, art, models, all are easy and quick to produce. If you want a rehashed TC, that is. If, however, you want something you haven't seen before, it takes time. If you want something that won't be outdated when it comes out, it takes more time."
And also some comments by Joe Siegler: "If we had wanted some quickie piece of crap, it would have been out ages ago. It takes time to innovate - it doesn't take any time to shovel any old crap out there. Since we are not a publically held company, we aren't beholden to the same things that some big companies hold their development teams to, hence we can afford to take the time to make a quality product. Besides, once it's released, no one will care how long it took, they'll care that they have a cool fun game."

Like design documents, milestones and timelines?
Valve has put the technology that 3D Realms talk about into Half Life 2. Except it didn't take them 6 fucking years.

This is exactly the reason why I doubt it will ever be released.
The game has so much hype associated with it that if it doesn't live up to this hype (and what game ever does?) it will look VERY bad for 3D realms. Fuck, look what happened with Ion Storm after they released what they reckoned was the greatest FPS game ever (Daikatana).
Why the hell didn't 3D Realms just make their own engine for this game? in 6 fucking years they could have made an engine that would be fucking brilliant, instead, they want to use the Unreal engine which is now what, 4 or 5 years old???
IF (note the big "if" there) the game ever does get finished and released to the stores, I certainly will NOT be buying it because I am pretty certain it's gonna suck big time.

I seem to recall hearing something about a Duke Nukem movie being made, with Duke being played by Dolph Lundgren.
But then again, maybe I'm making that up. I'm not sure.

i think studios buy the rights to these games and then realise it'd be fuckinmg hard to make a movie.
Personally i liked the rumor years ago about a doom movie with Bruce Willis

Yeah I heard the same type of rumours, but so far they have created Tomb raider, Mortal Combat, Mario... so why not make a movie about the duke!, atleast he is better than most other Game characters.
