I like Japanese Cars.
Paritularly Mazdas. On various forums I have seen references to Rice-Cars etc.
I was just wondering about peoples opinions on what makes a "rice-car". As it doesn't seem that all Jap Cars are rice-cars.

Personally I think any car with a big wing and a lot of stickers is pretty much it (and nitro).

What do others have to say?

Most people would class a car that's been modified to look fast, while kept mechanically stock, as being ricey. This is especially the case if the original car wasn't that fast. Other mods don't tend to.

So a person driving a Mitsubishi Mirage who whacks a front bumper that has WRC-style driving lights and fake bonnet scoop is ricey, but another person in a Mirage who gets their matt grey bumpers painted to body colour wouldn't be (even though they're both exterior modifications).

By the same token, getting similarly sized alloy wheels to replace the factory steel wheels isn't rice, but putting a set of 20" chrome rims would be.

It more applies to Japanese cars since they're cheap, and the people who can't afford to buy a real sports car tend to only be able to afford small Jap econoboxes. It doesn't mean you can't have "domestic rice". SSV (http://www.ssv.com.au/) does local stuff as well as Jap crap, and their Commodores / Falcons would still be classed as ricey.

For your info, nitrous is not a rice mod. It does have some performance value. Its people who put fake nitrous bottles in their car that are ricey.
