Is there meaning behind songs?, if so, what songs have meaning to you or what songs do you think might have a meaning?.

Post songs on this forum and see what people think they mean!.

My song is System of A Down - (NuGuns)

NÜGUNS

And the little boy stared,
Into the eyes of the night,
Button collects price of his time,
Lil girl glared,
Sheets of denial,
The Bullet connects to the price of her crime.

What have we said,
Wasn't it their bed,
What of our presence,
Haven't we payed penance.

Now the little boys sees,
Through the eyes of delight,
Levers erect note of his rhyme,
Little girl bled,
Sheets of the night,
The Lovers connect to the price of his dime.

Personally I think this song is about a Prostitute that gets shot (by the Little Boys Parents) because of her 'sinfull act' and the shame that it would bring to the family (Godfather style).

Is there meaning behind songs? Well I believe the answer is both yes and no.
Some might say it is dependent on the amount of time, feeling and/or attachment that the writers afford to the songs/lyrics.
Meanwhile others might say that if a listener finds meaning in a song/lyrics - whether or not it was intended to be there by the writer - then that meaning is there regardless as it means something to someone.

Lots of songs have meaning to me and I find this is particularly dependent on what I am going through and or thinking about at the time of listening to them as well as what I am triggered to think about whilst listening. For me listening to music and lyrics can be part of the thought process and healing process...
...the great communicator indeed... well, at least sometimes anyway.

I know Alanis Morisette used to date Dave Coulier. It is probable that "You Oughtta Know" was written about him. I know that I've read a statement by him -- he said he didn't know if the song was written about him or not.

I'm sorry that I can't provide a more credible source than this (http://www.snopes.com/music/songs/oughta.htm).

I just can't imagine Alanis, in a theater, going down on the dork from Full House. It's such a passionate, raw song, and it's most likely about that guy??

Ok, two bands to think of when considering this question....

U2 and Midnight Oil.

Gee I don't know, do you think they're trying to say something there? ;)

Personally I'd look at U2 - Running to Stand Still.

"You've got to cry without weeping
Talk without Speaking
Scream without raising your voice

She took the poison
From the Poison Stream
and Floated outta here"

A girl who can't deal with the trials/rules/ordeals in life and takes drugs to get away from it. Wrote the lyrics from memory so aplogies if it's not quite right.

I have always wondered what "welcome to the jungle, we've got fun and games" means.
