I have finally come off of my restrictions and will be getting a new bike this week (i hope).

I've settled on the CBR600 and there's a nice '99 model in Peter Stevens (adelaide).

It looks similar to thingy's but is mostly black, has silver on the front faring with yellow writing.

I took it for a test ride on Saturday, compared to my 250 all I can say is "woah".

That's the one, how fucking hot is that?

Also, where'd you get that pic from?

Hell yeah. Very nice bike.

I did an image search on Google for CBR600

A few pics, some of them involving the guy doing a trick or two. Unfortunately, the text is in Greek.

I am getting my blacks in december, selling my piss weak little zzr250 and getting...ummmm

what are your suggestions??? Sorta looking at a cruiser style rather than the racer. Possible a Triumph Thunderbird.

I still remember the day I made the step from 250's. I was fucking so excited. Drove to Peter Stevens in Dandenong, signed a bit of paper, gave the car keys to Tristan, and then belted home on the seat of a 2000 R6. The bloody thing almost ripped my arms out the first few offs from traffic lights. Ahhh, sooooo much fun.

The CBR's were about the only others I considered, but I won't touch bikes that aren't fuel injected, and it was too much trouble finding an injected CBR in my price range.

Ahh, nothing better in this world than belting down the GOR with a few mates.

Nice choice my friend. You'll have many a fun day on her back. I agree, that colour scheme is much better (there's someone who parks in the same area as I do in North Syd with that colour scheme, I am envious).

It's a hot bike, I just need to get a mate to give it a once over...

Sorting out the loan details today, then it will be mine. I'm so fucking stoked, my 250 just doesn't compare. :D

I think that style colour scheme is pretty killer, your bike looks sweet too. I don't know how I'll get used to a bike without a boot ;)

Riding a scooter- like fucking a fat chick...

Great fun until your friends find out. :D

At the moment I'm trying to organise the cash for my new bike. I missed out on the one above, now I'm getting one that is almost exactly like thingy's bike.

I have to organise insurance and they need to be payed before I can get my loan...

This is a serious pain in the arse. I'll prolly have to wait to the end of the week now!

:swear:

Yeah, I stopped cleaning my 250 about 6 months ago...

This bike is going straight to the pool room.

Mine is the 99 model (FX). A beast of a machine, but I hope you understand how expensive they can be to maintain. Mine dumped its coolant on the weekend... I got home, went to put it in the garage and when I turned around there was a big puddle of radiator fluid under it. Bugger eh?

Here's my bike page (http://www.lurgen.com/toys/bikes/)

Still, I gotta say that if you wanted a beefy bike the CBR600f is definitely the one to go with, especially for the price. Good luck with it!

Thought I'd ressurect this thread... I'm gonna post some more pics of my baby when I get it back. New exhaust and some other fixes, sweet.

Any other bike riders out there?

Future rider. :D
First I'd like to get my black car licence but then I'm heading straight for the bikes. My Dad can't object either because he owns one and I go for rides with him and his bike club all the time. (At least that's my theory) He's a part of the Ulysses club, A riding club for over 40's riders.
He owns a ZZR1200s...I think. Bugger, now I can't remember! Anyway, it's snazzy, it's 1200cc, it's a Kawasaki and it's naked! ;)
Bit of a Kawasaki girl myself, (which Dad likes too, he's bought me the branded shirt and all:D). I'll probably start of with a GPX250 or a ZZR250. Not sure really. All depends on what Dad says really, as I know I won't be allowed to buy it without his approval. :p

Same engine anyway. I'd say go for the gpx, they're cheaper. The mistake most people make with 250s is going for a fast one (at a high price).

It's just for learning on! The gpx and zzr get great fuel economy too.

That's my logic too. Once I become unrestricted I'll be buying something a whole lot nicer.
I believe Excalibur was going to get a GPX, but there were some complications with the whole deal and getting a loan (Parents were slightly less impressed) and he's going to buy a car instead. He'll end up doing the same deal as me though, getting the bike after the car.
Dad just told me that whatever bike I get has to be green though, to match my green blood. Errr Dad. :p

Al
14-04-2004, 01:38 PM
Yeah, my parent's didn't want me to get a bike. Dad still leant me the money tho  (I had a suzuki across)

When I bought my CBR he cracked the shits, aparently he thought I'd get over motorbikes. Ha!

None on my family knows I crashed it and am getting it repaired... They keep asking why they haven't seen me for 2 months. hehe

heeheehee...

Well I don't think Dad would have told DrDivad and I about his crash but he had to call Divad to pick him up. He had been going round or corner or something and the bike slid out. He said it was partially his fault, had to brake for a car who wasn't paying attention but he said he knew how to handle it better, just didn't at the time. All related to his braking.
Ended up replacing the side-mirror which broke off, and severely scratched up the sides of it. Worse damage was to himself though, ended up breaking his collar bone. It now has this funny "pokey-uppy" bit which he can depress. Silly knob rode the bike back to his place after his crashed it though! It was from there that Divad took him to a hospital.

I have a slightly different opinion on this subject, which I'm going to bore you with now...

My first bike was a CBR250RR Fireblade. Fast little thing, but stupid purchase. My first bike should have been a simple, cheap bike like a CB250 - that way, when I moved onto my full motorcycle license 12 months later I could just toss the thing away without losing any real money and buy my 600f.

First bikes should be treated as short-term, temporary investments. 250cc isn't enough for most people, and anything bigger is too much for a learner. High-end 250's are overpriced - for a third of the price of my new CBR250RR I could have bought a great second hand, 2 year old bike that would have done just as much good.

The other thing I didn't realise is how much harder (technically) it is to ride a fast bike when you're new to the whole thing. The 'blade was a pig at times - sure, it was quick when it was moving, but at low speeds it just wanted to have a short lie-down.

Look at cheap bikes, at least to start with. Almost every learner damages their first bike - it's part of the learning curve. Best to do it on something you don't mind losing.

And then buy a CBR1000RR *grin*

Done and done. I'll be going with what I can afford at the time, most definately. I'll only be in my early 20's at the time anyway so I won't exactly be making millions (I can't see that happening at any age but that's not the point).
Like I said, when I do go shopping I'll go with my dad. He's got the knowledge and know-how and he'll help me find the best suiting bike for a great price. He's been riding since he was about 20, if not younger. He started on the streets of Coventry, England and then over here in Australia for a few years. He gave it up for quite a while after breaking his leg 2 or 3 times due to careless drivers and only recently started again. I'm confident with his opinion.

Your dad would know his stuff for sure then.

Hey Lurgen, if you don't have anyone to ride with there are probably some email groups or such...

In SA there's a bunch of guys that go riding (about 5 or more) every weekend (probably about 30+ people in total).

Yeah, there are similar groups in Victoria. Problem is, I'm not likely to know until the last minute that I'm free for enough time to justify setting up a group ride. Work and uni get in the way of such things :(

That's the joy of Dad's group.
They're all set up weeks-months in advance, set out in rankings for experienced riders, or lengthy rides and just cruisy casual ones and he picks which ones he feels like showing up to. And if he doesn't show, it still goes ahead as before.

Bah, they guys here basically say when they're going for a ride. So you either show up at the advertised time or miss out.

I like going out by myself most of the time, I ride my bike to get away and have some time alone.

It seems I'm getting my bike back before the weekend. I'm fucking stoked, it's been about 3 months since I've had it. Time to pay up for more rego!

I like bikes as well, had my learners for 18 months now. waiting to do the next courses in the NT where i could have my open licence in 6 months. :D But i think i'm coming from another angle than the rest of you guys. My experience on bikes is mostly trail riding, but i don't think i'll get much chance to do it in the future as i now live in Melbourne. -Family is still in NT and i pretty much say i'm a citizen of NT.-

You guys are talking about good learner bikes what would your thoughts be on getting an XR250 road register it, and flog it for a while then get a phat road bike and keep the dirty one for dirty occassions.

I know there are differences between trail bikes and sports bikes but would it be a problem going from an XR/CR to CBR? Apart from the obvious of going scrub.

I don't think you'd have a problem going from one to the other, but there'll be a bit of adjustment required obviously :)

an XR250 on the road is a pretty fun machine though!

Sounds like a plan, I wish I had the cash for a dirty. Aside from the fact that you should prolly fork out for road tyres, if you can get them, it's a great idea. I'm sure you know how shit knobbly tyres are on road.
