So who's going this time around and what are you going to see?

Myself, DumHed and still_life be going on teh Friday event (there's two due to unprecendented demand). Haven't worked out our intenerary yet (hah!) but I can say it will include Butterfly Effect, Muse, Dandy Warhols, Basement Jaxx and Aphex Twin.

Doing the Adelaide experience myself. Shall be checking out Aphex Twin, Felix da Housecat, Pee Wee Ferris, PNAU, The Jaxx, Gerling, The Mars Volta - I could go on, but I won't. Best line up I have seen at the BDO in yonks.

I'll be going if I can afford a ticket and I've got somewhere to stay.

Well lets get the ball rolling!

This Big Day Out is seriously the best Lineup ever!
Anyone who says opposite is just a nong!

plus there is going to be two shows in Sydney which is cool :)

We are going too! We are also booking a hotel room or two to stay in before and after the bdo, considering its a friday, and we don't want to catch the train with the crazies in a rush. Plus Pirate gets the hotel 1/2 price! so its only $50 a night for 4 people so far... anyone that wants to stay at the hotel with us should =D

Utop are you going to the brisbane BDO or Sydney BDO?

btw, boozer, you've just named my intenerary :D w00t

the lineup is crap, simply cos i cant go :(

but seriously it just looks like a big rave, with a few bands. why dont the 'kids' appreciate 'actual' musicians anymore? its all just get out the dats and vinyl.

Probably the Gold Coast one, as I don't think I'll be able to afford two plane tickets, accommodation for the weekend and a ticket. If I somehow come across $1000, I'll change my plans.

It would be nice to go to the Sydney one though, there'd probably be more people I know there than at the Gold Coast one.

Aphex Twin, Luke Vibert, Gerling, Salmonella Dub, Basement Jaxx, Felix Da Housecat, Pnau, Sonic Animation and maybe 1200 Techniques are the acts I'd like to see.

That's the problem though ay dozer...all the ravers cry if more metal/hard/wank/whatever bands are on at the expense of what they like...but then all the alternative mainstream idiots have a cry when linkin park aren't coming and there's more rave stuff.

Me, I'm not too fussed either way...I have a very broad range in terms of what I like and listen to and shit man it's big day out, I know I'll have a blast no matter who's playing.

Well if you change ur mind, you can always crash with us utop :)

I'm getting all excited now! *bounces*

We need to aqquire the biggest super soakers we can find :D

Thanks for the offer, Buffy. I had a good time with Agony and Prize when I came down for Cassius/Derrick Carter, so I can only imagine that throwing you and your unique style of crazy into the mix would make things even cooler.

This is the kind of attitude that makes a great big day out.

IMO one of the best things about the big day out is that you can go from the main stage to the boiler room in less than 5 minutes.

dozer
05-12-2003, 11:18 AM
it just seems more 'raver heavy' than normal, and boring sitting in the boiler room listening to the 6th set in a row you paid $100 for.

but you are right it doesnt matter that much who plays, its who your with, and dont miss felix, he played a great set new years day.

WHOA! WHOA! WHOA!

everyone seems to be forgetting that Metallica are playing, and bringing back the hair bands are 'The Darkness', bring on the noise!

also Aphex Twin, Downsyde, Felix da House Cat and Flaming Lips are a defiante. Can't wait to see if theres any more additions.

COME ON IRON MAIDEN!!!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE......

anyway, Basement Jaxx played a pretty ordinary set at Summadayze last year so I think they can go to the backburner, and only get a run if theres no clash of stages.

without Metallica as the drawcard I don't think the line-up would be strong enough.

You gotta love as well that 'A Perfect Circle' pulled out of the BDO with reasons 'not given' then announce a tour for 3 weeks later, and another 70 odd bucks on the credit card.

bloody bloody.

YeaH I'm coming. Pretty sure i can afford the ticket :grumble:

Ill be on the boozer itinery too.

*High fives anyone who was in front row for kraftwerk last year*

Metallica would MAYBE con me into going to the circus, BUT, although im not much of a muso at all, i arnt a fan of St. Anger, and there instruments seemed tuned very diferently from the classic days, SO when they play the classics would these crappy tinny drums and shitly tuned guitars effect this??? ..enlighten me?

Apparently *Apparently* Metallicas live shows are still amazing. Remains to be seen - Will certainly check them out at BDO though.

St Anger was fairly heftily produced.

on stage I reckon your still gonna get that raw sound and anger coming through.

and with a limited time frame they'll definately throw in some favs from Justice, Puppets and Black. damn well better anyway.

Buffy

didn't go to kraftwerk, but *high fives* anyone that was front row for chemical brothers/basement jaxx in 2000... fuck I might even go so far as to say that might've been the best BDO ever...
no wait, 1994 was the shit  soundgarden, ramones, bjork, smashing pumpkins, the breeders!! omg i nearly died... :p
1996 with the prodigy and tricky was also the justice.
Fuck it, they have all been good in their own way.

I was still pretty young for the bdo nirvana played out but i went along with siblings and witnessed from a distance.. while its nice to say you've seen em live, I would still agree with your point :D

The vibe at the end of underworld was sweet. 8)

Favourite live act was Rocket Science though. They rock hard!

agreed, but if you ran fast right after the RATM set you would have been able to witness rancid in their prime, by far the best BDO ever

In a Metallica press release for the BDO, they said that they wanted to play songs from the old CD's and only a few from St. Anger. They said that the most likely songs that they would do from Anger would be St. Anger, Frantic and All within my hands.

W00t if this is true!!!!

I'm really only into Aphex Twin & Afrika Bambaataa in this year's line-up, I could just see the Bambaataa side-gig & live without seeing Aphex Twin though.

The putrid lineup. I VOMIT THE SOUL. :barf:

Last years BDO in Adelaide was mostly awful and thusly i have no real motivation to go this year.

I'm going to BDO in Sydney.

I don't think that my friends and I have come to any definate decision about what to see yet but Something For Kate and Magic Dirt (hopefully) will be on that list

Im going to BDO purely for the fact that Aphex is playing. That justifies it for me in its entirety.

I got my tix yesterday for the saturday :-D

No decisions on what I'll be seeing yet but the first 2 years I didn't stick to the plan anyway, and last year I didn't make one and ended up in the mosh for Jane's addiction and Foo Fighters. Was a great end to a fantastic day.

Fave moment (in my 3 years of experience) was SOAD playing Bounce and the rest of their set list. Heaps of other great moments but that one stands out

I probably won't be going. There aren't any performers that are "grabbing" me enough to want to go and put up with all the negatives that come with the BDO.

I'm not going to say its the worst lineup ever, but just nothing that says, "You must come". More a bunch of "yeah, I'd go see them if I was already there".
