Can anyone advise??

I have a Citrix Metaframe XP V1 server on a Win2000 SP3 machine with predominantly WinXP Pro clients.

On a few of the machines we have, when the users try and connect to a Published App, they get a message saying there is a comms or dialup problem connecting to the Citrix server. There are no comms issues as this a LAN.

The users can log into the Citrix server and get the desktop, it is when they try and launch an app.

This is a machine based issue, not a login account issue. It is not rights based either, as I can log in on some and not on others as administator.

Microsoft website said check the Citrix site...thanks Microsoft for another insightful fix!!!

Any ideas greatly apprecitated!!!

So are they connecting to the desktop then launching an app, or connecting to a published app? Unless you have the desktop published as an app in the application set (and not as an ICA Connection as is standard way to connect to desktops), you cannot do both from the one set of communications rules. I would go to the machines having this issue and check the connection settings for that particular application set, maybe even putting in the TCP/IP address for the server.

They are going to the published app area and launcinh from there.

I have run a Windows Update, rebooted and so far all seems well, but this still does not explain why it would happen in the first place...have to love microsoft!!!

Ok, maybe I need to give you my instructions in a little more detail.

Open up Citrix Program Neighborhood (it will either be on the desktop, or in the start menu under Programs -> Citrix ICA Client.

Chances are it will open up to the Application Set where you have the links to all the programs that particular user is allowed to run. Simply clicking on refresh will force PN to contact the Metaframe server to see which programs that user has access to. If it starts talking about a dialup connection you know PN is configured incorrectly.

In the toolbar across the top you will see a "properties" and a "settings" button. These will give you the information about how that computer was told to connect to the Metaframe server. Ensure it's set up to only connect via a LAN (not dialup), tell it the IP addresses of the server too (there might be communications issues in the lan segment somewhere?).

Sorry, don't know if I was clear enough. The users don't install the Citrix client, they install the Citrix Web client.

They go to the citrix web page, login and get the list of published apps they have rights for.

There would appear to be no specific configuration options for the web client, unlike the ICA client.

Ahh, righto. That's where my confusion was. I haven't delved much into the web client, but I shall have a bit of a play tomorrow when I return to work (time permitting) and see what I can find for you.

Thanks dude!!

As I mentioned, I did the Win update, and all is well, the question is why did it go funny in the first place??

My school uses Citrix and swears by it (not at it) - we also use web client for remote published app delivery and it works really well - email me and I'll pass your contact details on to our tech department if you want ... they are justifyably proud of how well it workx
