OK, trying to work on a PC that has an intriguing problem.

A program called oehs.exe is trying to access the Internet according to the firewall. I believe it is the cause of the computer randomally wanting to connect as well - somewhat annoying (and also somewhat expensive on the phone bill).

I have no idea what this file is/does. A search on Google, Altavista and also through the Symantec site (because I suspected it could be a virus) found nothing that would explain this. I'm doing a scan with the latest virus definitions but nothing has come up as yet and, in any case, I would expect it to have alerted me when I tried the Right Click -> Properties trick to try and find out what it is.

Can anyone give me any pointers? I just want to solve this problem but don't want to eradicate the file if it is useful, yet want to eradicate it if it is a nasty piece of work.

Found out the cause! I should really do some more investigation before I make embarrassing posts here.

The second I closed the browser window from posting the message above, up came ....... tada ....... AN ADVERTISMENT. I then suddenly clicked ....... SPYWARE!

Downloaded, updated and ran AdAware. Cleaned out all the spyware and got rid of the particular file in question causing all the problems.

Well, spank my monkey and call me Charlie .....

*me threatens to go on a shooting spree of all people who produce spyware*

spybot would probly also be a good idea to get everything adaware misses.

Cool cool. Although I've found AdAware to be quite good in the past ... well at least all the time I've been using it.

So whose with me to join in the redneck rampage against those who choose to use illegitimate forms of advertising like popup-causing spyware?

I found 710 objects using Adaware on a friends computer...

Why are stupid people allowed to run wild on the internet?:(

Only 710? I ran it on my sister-in-laws computer and found over 1000... I had put Adaware on her computer months earlier and said, at least once a week, run this program... do you think she did? NOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooo

:grr:

Can you guys tell me were to find these fabulous products? I've wanted to look for something like that but I'm afraid of getting spyware in the guise of anti-spyware!

The only real differences that means jack shit betweewn the free versino and the pro version is that the pro version has a realtime scanner to prevent adware from getting in, while the free version you have to manually initiate the scan.

SpyBot Search and Destroy:

http://www.safer-networking.org/

Not only gets rid of spyware, but can protect against some viruses, trojans, and random stupid settings in M$ products. Even cleans out history's - and its all free!!!

Mwahaha.

(Don't forget to look for signature updates too)
