DVD Burner Problems

Ok my mate just bought a DVD burner off of Ebay. It reads DVD's fine but as soon as we try and put in a blank DVD-R it wont recognize the disk. Are there any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

Thanks for any help you guys can give, oh and in case your wondering its a Philips DVD+RW-D01.

Just found another thing, when i use dvd decrypter and try to burn an image it has an error of Device Not Ready (Focus Servo Error). Thats when i put the blank disk in.

(1) kill mate
(2) firmware upgrade
(3) get other [generic brand] dvd-rs and test
(4) buy proper dvd burner

If you have a DVD+R drive, you'll need DVD+R media, not DVD-R media.

Also, w/ DVD Decryptor, have you tried other dVD's or just the one?
