Debian all the way.

For firewall I use shorewall... beautiful little script suite.

yeah 9.2 is great. it's not like they just updated, it was a reconstruction.

One of the only downfalls with 9.1 and 9.2 was that mouse support via a KVM switch. I kept getting lockups left and right when toggling between PC's. never had that prob with 9.0 and below though.

I'm with Asmo and fearless.
Server's running Debian, and my main desktop is running Gentoo.
My theory is: Is you want it built right, build it yourself ;)

freebsd is not a linux distro...

i've primarily used redhat, endured older versions of slackware...

redhat always served me well, though rpm dependancies are a pain in the ass

I have played with Redhat and Mandrake in the past. I now play with Gentoo.

I say play cos Linux is not on any of my main PC's.

I am currently trying to put Gentoo on an Apple Powerbook 3400c.

+ I use IPCOP as my firewall.

lol, look at his reg date. while he may not ever post, having been here a year, i think we can assuredly assume that his zcherry has been popped by now.

so far, i'm loving gentoo, the whole dependency crap with rpm's is mostly solved, it runs faster and more stable, and as more and more soures become ICC compliant, and ICC gains better binary compatibility with gcc, you can start to see a 10X increase in some programs.. yes, 10x in some cases. of course, on intel platforms only.

indeed, i lost my cherry to movis

icc sounds rather tidy, is it specific to gentoo? or is gentoo just the one using icc the most prolifically? :)

icc is the compiler put out by intel, for intel. there is a windows and linux version on their site. actually, you can get it free for personal/non commercial use on their site.

gentoo people have an interest in it since by nature gentoo people ar elooking for more performance and cutting edge stuff.. so seein gthe numbers, its a snall but growing movement over there.

seems to be a fair amount of hyperbole floating around about speed increases...

what is your experience with it?
