Ok ticket holders: talk about your timetable choices and other 2004 BDO tidbits here.

Meanwhile I shall bitch quietly about the Strokes/Aphex twin clash :(

As long as I get to see Aphex Twin, The Flaming Lips & Afrika Bambaataa(sp?) I'm happy.

I'm going on the Saturday on account of work.

Butterfly Effect, Muse, Dandy Warhols, maybe The Strokes, and I will hang out in the boiler room the rest of the time.

I am pleased :D

You won't be happy after you read timetable then.....

Doesn't bother me though. Won't be going to hothouse at all this year.

That'd be right, I could do the dash between shows, half an hour of each show maby, Flaming Lips was just an after thought on my itinery.

Even though this is the first time Flaming Lips have been here I think that there is a greater chance of them returning than there is with Bam.

So who's going to the saturday one? how would I know you if I came across you? Perhaps we should arrange Zgeek rendezvous for each day.

I think probably most people are going to the Friday one.

Meanwhile I will be recognisable by the fact that I will be wearing a giant bucket on my head.

I'll be working there. I will be doing alcohol wristbanding. I will be the one that looks really bored.

Yell out zgeek as you get wristbanded and I'll give you extra wristbands so you can get your underage girlfriend drunk and take advantage of her.

weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
actually last years was better.

From what I saw:

the awesome: Aphex Twin, Pnau, Miniscule of Sound

the good: Peewee Ferris, The Darkness

the meh: Sonic Animation, Basement Jaxx, Afrika Bombaataa

the bad: David Holmes, Felix Da Cat

Friends said Strokes, Metallica, Kamahl were awesome.

Notes:
Boiler room doors were locked at 10pm so get in early.

Tickets are $120 on the door or $100 from scalpers.

edit: so much pot smoke everywhere i can still smell it on my shirt. (as well as strawberry fog juice)

Aphex Twin was easily the standout of the day for me.

Darkness were pretty rockin as well...I saw them on the recommendation of someone from work and I'm glad I did.

Butterfly Effect played a tight set but I wasn't appreciative of the morons in the crowd who nearly killed me

Caught half of the Dandy Warhols, they played really well but the sound quality wasn't great.

Muse...fuck me that guy can sing. Only saw half of it but they were going off pretty hard.

Felix da Housecat - yeah he's just a DJ, but I enjoyed it well enough.

Basement Jaxx were fairly standard I have to say. I left not long after they started when all those fuckwits rushed the police guard. Getting out of there was not fun.

Big surprise of the day for me was Gerling, I really enjoyed their set.

DumHed said Metallica was great, he was up high in the stands so he was watching their set and the electrical storm that was banging around.

All in all, great day. Eight thumbs up :D

the awesome: Aphex Twin,

I'm not really much of a dancer, I wasn't terribly impressed by Aphex Twin as a live act, I like his music but I may as well have just listened to a CD, I rarely saw his head appear from behind his decks & the visual display consisted only of old Goodies clips & some old Sherlock Holmes movie.

The highlight for me was actually Toy Death's pneumatic drum machine("The Cell"), I was allowed to take photos inside it.

Security seemed a little over zelous, they started to move people away from the "punishment Park" while it was still running, I was standing at the the fence around the Propane thingy(A replacement for the "Large Hot Pipe Organ" that was made in less than a week) & a security gaurde before even asking me to move on gave me a tap(albeit light) to the ribs with his truncheon, & then his dog tried to attack the Toy Death guy.

I've only been to this one & 1999, 1999 was awesome.

In the last song of the Saturday Severed Heads set an unknown(well I knew nobody at the BDO) girl wrapped her arm around my neck & danced around in a circle with me, after the set she came back to me & said something about one of the security guards, asked me my name(I didn't think to ask her's) & then kissed me on the cheek & on the back of the neck, I believe she was somewhat drunk, maybe on ecstacy too(that'd explain the amorousness).

Aphex twin sounded like a cd, but it was damn good, and the cd doesnt exist :)

Wanted to see severed heads instead of the Jaxx, but they made EAR stage into Jaxx tv screen.

Tom Ellard(now all of Severed Heads) moved the Severed Heads set back earlier to try & work around weather since his laptops hate the rain.

Tops: Muse, The Strokes, Kamahl, The Datsuns

Good: Skulker, Hoodoo Gurus

Meh: Metallica, Dandy Warhols, The Darkness

The bestess act of the day bar none: The Flaming Lips

Those who thought about seeing the Lips but didn't, you missed out, they were absolutely brilliant, better than when i saw them in the UK in 99. Tops

She looked as though she should be easily able to do better than me.

At Perth: The sound was wimpy and the crowd control fucking sucked. They had a segregated pit up front you had to queue for, and obviously weren't expecting a thousand Metallica types to want in three hours before Metallica took the stage. Eventually they ended up just taking the barricade down - this was after I stupidly waited there for an hour, missing out on Aphex Twin in the process :swear:

On a more positive note, the Hoodoos were good, Muse (with whom I was previously unimpressed) were great, and as for Metallica:

Blackened
Creeping Death
Harvester of Sorrow
Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
For Whom The Bell Tolls
Frantic
Sad But True
Dirty Window
Seek and Destroy
Fade to Black
Battery
--------
St. Anger
Nothing Else Matters
Master of Puppets
--------
One
Enter Sandman

'Nuff said.

That was cool. I ended up taking shelter in there for a while during the storm :)

They let me inside the fence to play with the various explosive stuff too which was damn cool. I had a most interesting discussion with the designer of the hot pipe organ about pulse jet engines :)

Dang, I didn't get inside the hexothamophone enclosure, toy death guy was cool though, I got to play the "Cell", there's a MC 505 inside it, All up that thing is worth around $30,000, He payed $10,000, mostly for the shipping container, almost everything else was donated by the manufacturers who were apparently fascinated with his intended use.
