My current Motorola phone is dying in the ass. Something about the phone resetting in the middle of calls and typing messages that is starting to make it somewhat unusable. Anyhoo, I'm looking to buy another phone now, and the E700 has caught my eye.
A mate of mine has one and has no complaints and of course enjoys showing off the flashy camera-ness of it, but does anyone else have any experience and feedback with them? And does anyone know about the availability of the data cable for the camera, as the Australian model doesn't come with it in the box, but it's, in my opinion, vital to the running of the phone.
Cheers.

Im after one of these phones too atm (and would've had one by now if it wasnt for an idiot friend).
Are you sure it doesnt come with the data cable? If not I would like to know where to get them from and home much.

Positive. If you head to Samsung's Mobile site (http://www.samsung.com.au/mobile) and download the User Guide for the phone, you'll see it not listed under 'In the Box', but as an optional extra. I haven't been to an Optus store to check if they sell them, but I've heard their availability in Australia is sketchy at best. I just want it because, with the quality of the photos from the camera being so good (for a camera-phone anyway), to be able to use it as a dodgy digital camera for when I don't want to take my actual camera out, that would be unreal.

Used to own a samsung phone.
My feelings on it.
Hardware OK.
Software Extreme Crap.
My understanding is that both of these have improved.
Buy a nokia.
Hardware Good
Software Excellent
It will serve you better, more easily and when it comes time to change phones it won't try to kill you.

If your Optus-type individual doesn't sell data cables, bugger it. Just get something like this (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3379074971&category=14417) offa ebay (http://wwww.ebay.com.au). That's not a great example of the cheapest, best IR-USB device you can get, but it's an example. The E700 has an IR port built in that you can send your whatever over.

There's a mad guide to using the aforementioned IR (because I wasn't sure if you could transfer more than your phone book over IR on the E700) at samsunghandphones.com (http://www.samsunghandphones.com/E700.htm). Well worth checking out, theyve got good links to a lot of information.
Guide to using EasyStudio and IrDA
I recommend getting any recent model USB infra-red adaptor. Works well and you won't need to order the data cable for the E700. Please also note, cables from other Samsung models may not work with the E700.
EasyStudio, IrDA and laptops / notebooks : There seems to be some compatability problems with laptop and notebook IrDA's. I can only suggest you try using a USB adaptor and a PC...
PIMS & File Manager (31 MB). This is a stand-alone program and should be sufficient to transfer pics and ringtones to the E700 and also move your photos to your PC. Also to back-up your phonebook and SMS.
Image Editor (19.5 MB). Edit your images... duhhh...
Step-by-step Guide :
1. Install the appropriate software and reboot as necessary.
2. Connect your USB IrDA to your PC.
3. Go to Menu, 4 (Phone Settings), 8 (Infrared active), turn ON infrared for the E700. Of course, align the IrDA to the E700's IrDA port!
4. Start EasyStudio PIMS & File Manager. Go to File, Setup, set Port to IrDA and Speed to 57600. EasyStudio should recognize the E700 and load your Sim's phonebook and call record data.
5. Click on the 'File Manager' icon. A new 'File Manager' window will appear. Click 'My Phone' at the top right hand corner.
6. Then click on the appropriate folders you want stuff transferred from / to. For example, if you want to transfer photos taken to your PC, click on 'Photos', 'My Photos'. Or click on 'Sounds', 'My Sounds' if you want to upload your own ringtones to the E700.
7. Highlight the items you want and use the 'Upload' / 'Download' arrows to transfer the stuff you want between the E700 and your PC.
8. Enjoy!

the e700 has a really nice camera in it.
it has 5 different effect and about 4 levels of zoom. heaps better than any other camera i've used.
the phone itself is allright. nice and small. good sound. the test model we had didnt have GPRS working so i couldnt tell you about ringtones or games or wallpapers.
i had a meeting with some dudes from samsung the other day and they were all using e700's.
but when it comes down to it im a nokia person. my current phone - nokia 6600 - fucking rocks.
although it fucked up last night when i wanted to bootleg the luke vibert and aphex twin gig.

Bought mine today, $279 on a $77 plan, and I should have a successful bid on an infra-red cable by tonight. Very satisfied with the phone - the camera images are big and clear, the polyphonics are great, the speed of the camera's excellent, no complaints yet. Of course, it's only been one afternoon, but still. Muchly reccommended.
Oooh, are you in the phone business gooey? Well, I guess anyone can answer this question if they can.
I feel like splurging on a nice phone and was considering an E700, but basically I'm after a good "flip" phone with a camera. Is Samsung or anyone else coming up with something good within the next year or so? Or should I just go for an E700.
I currently have a Samsung T100 and can stick to it for a long time to come, but the yuppie in me is itching for a new gadget.
And how is the new phone Shootz? Found anything about it that drives you mad yet?
