Catching the bus to work kinda sucks, but listening to music in the city is cool, in this thread I want walkman/discman/ipod geeks to tell us what they listen to on the way to work.

No car stereos

This week:

The Streets - Original Pirate Material
The Strokes - Room on Fire
The Jam - Some 'Best Of' Album
Stone Roses - Another 'Best Of'

Your New Favourite Band
-The Hives.

Did the Stone Roses best of have "Fool's Gold" on it?,
I like that.

We don't have public transport here so getting to work is swift.:)

Can this include watching videos (on a pda/ pvp/ smartphone)?

It did indeed, also "She Bangs The Drums" and "This is the One", songs of a perpetual summer.

Indeed! Have you downloaded any of the bootleg stuff yet? Truly worth it.

I must second Tintin's recommendation for Alex Lloyd.

No they're not music videos (but thats a good idea). And of course I don't annoy other passengers :grr:

On the trian, this week, I've been listening to:

- The Cure - Greatest Hits
- Manic Street Preachers - Everything Must Go

MisterBishi

I like that Manics album

Good thread idea.

Well, this week I have been listening to

Curve - Doppelganger
Maroon 5 - Songs about Jane
Linkin Park - Meteora (go on, laugh, I know you want to)
Sneaker Pimps - Splinter

It takes me roughly 50 minutes to get to work so that's just enough time for a whole album, which is neat.

on rotation

unkle - never never land
unkle - psyencefiction
dj shadow - private repress

with various peanut butter wolf, beastie boys and ninja tune to fill up the card.

i currently have 1300 songs on my mp3 player. i normally choose random play,as i rarely listen too a whole album from start to finish anyway. mind u i have been listening to the "hitch hikers guide to the galaxy" audio book. i have had it converted to mp3 as well. i find ppl look at me real strange when i start laughing out loud on a train in the afternoon.

Gerling - Bad Blood!!!
Caia - Themagicdragon

Caia is this really cool down tempo hip-hop jazz electro sort of stuff. It's all instrumental except for a few small vocal samples. It's very relaxing.

Salted_Chipmunk

Infected Mushroom - Conveting Vegetarians. Especially Yanko Pitch,Song Pong and Opagiffa Night

For commuting I tend to stick with one album for a week or so, giving it a real hammering before moving on to the next one. This last week I've had the Audioslave album on constant rotation...that Chris Cornell has a great voice.

I've got an iPod - I prefer to listen to albums/artists sequentially. As such - I've been listening to:

Ben Harper - Diamonds on the Inside
Kyuss - And the Circus Leaves Town
Desert Sessions 5/6 and 9/10
Grinspoon - Easy

I have considered getting a CD-mp3 player many times, only to remember buses are noisey and you can't hear the music properly :(

Do you reckon an iPod is worth getting? Is it as good as everyone's saying, or am I better off sticking with MD?

sound quality depends on the headphone u have. most mp3 players ship with those annoying, uncomfortable mini ear bud style headphones
95% of the time the headphones they ship with are UTTER CRAP as this keeps the price down as well.

I hate them!!!!

i have a rather large looking pair of old style headphones, that actually sit over the whole ear, thereby blocking out the noise of the surrounding ppl and bus/train

utopian

A friend of mine has these awesome (Sony?) headphones that are bud style. They've got these little rubber stoppers that make them comfortable to wear while blocking out about 90% of every external sound.

Lost in Translation Soundtrack.

Vogue-ish I know, but Glasgow is in 'shitty-rainy' mode right now, and the music suits my mood well.

*edit: actually it was rainy yesterday... today it's frosty with threats of a snow blizzard.

Only if you've got no roof and you're getting rained on in the city.

Fuzzy Dice
27-01-2004, 03:51 PM
Public Enemy - He got game
Abandoned Pools - Sunny Day
Seven Mary Three - Punch in, Punch out
Reel Big Fish - Take On Me
Stone Temple Pilots - Days of The week
Sublime - Santeria

There's a bunch more, but like you need my ENTIRE playlist. These are the ones i like best at the moment. Takes me fifteen minutes to walk to school from my stop. And .mp3's mean I don't have to make idle conversation with people I don't know.

That Seven Mary Three song is all vocals and drums. It's both hip and fly.

While we're on the topic of other ways of listening to music. Does anyone have any idea where I can find a 2.5mm male, 3.5mm female stereo-stereo adapter?

They're impossible to find in Brisbane.

Zan
27-01-2004, 04:42 PM
Haven't heard of a 2.5mm adaptor.

Have you tried dicksmith for it, or failing them stocking the complete thing for parts?

i wouldn't expect JB-hifi to have it - they're fucking useless with anything 'peripheral'...

"Hi, I'm looking for a stereo extension cable"

"Hmm, I'm not sure about that... How about a DVD player, they are only 120 dollars! Or a TV, see the plasma ones? We have a sale on digital cameras!"

ffs if I wanted that shit I'd ask for it.

...but I digress. I'd definitely check out a couple of dicksmiths, or Jaycar Electronics in the Gabba:

Dick Smith only had a mono-stereo adapter, and that's useless to me. The Nokia 5510 adapter cable would work, but no one wants to part with just the cable.

I'll have a look at Jaycar though.
