I'm working with some wave files that are a few hours long, have lots of silence/low noise interspersed with the odd bit of sound. I was wondering if anyone knew of some good utilities that dont crash, and have things like automatic silence removal, noise filters etc.
Thanks!

I don't know about the automatic silence removal, but Cool Edit Pro 2 (aka: Adobe Audition) does the job nicely.

Either would work well. I use CoolEdit Pro 2.0, but seeing as Sound Forge is written by the same guys that do Acid Pro 4.0 (another package that I use), I'd hazard a guess that even though I haven't use it, it's probably good.
Just don't go overboard on the noise reduction in CoolEdit, as it tends to sound 'squelchy' if you do too much.
