Some of you might remember talk of a big party in March to celebrate the birthdays of thingy, shez and I (and maybe Goat Boy if he wishes to reveal himself), so I'm starting this thread to see if people want to throw some ideas into the mix on this.
I'm thinking some kind of excursion of adequacy on the weekend of 13-14th or 20th-21st. Where this will be or what it will entail I haven't thought of yet so help me out here people.

Provided I don't pour all my money into dubious whores, I shall be there.
I'll be eating nothing but Fantastic Noodles until then though. :(

How is that different from now? :p
(a cheaper and more healthy alternative is to buy shitloads of condensed soup of different varieties and the world's biggest sack of rice, and make heaps of stew. Combine with bread rolls for hearty lunch or dinner!)

I think the weekend of the 20th was agreed to last time we spoke about this in person (ie, when Shez was up and the discussion was re-incarnated after last years flop). She usually does stuff in WolleySchlong on the weekend closer to her birthday (13-14th), so we were going to do the sydney one on teh 20-21st.
As for the what where and the why ... I suggest dinner at Chilli's!!! Sure it's way out west (Wentworthville), but it's worth it. [nods] ZBus can take driver and 5 passengers (6 if I remember where the middle seat was left). I'm sure we can squeeze others into other vehimacles.

Not sure about them doing vegetarian, but Chilli's is an excellent choice. Although I will be spending my birthday on the 15th at Lonestar.:D
You can check out the menu here (http://www.chilis.com/menu/default.asp?Unit_ID=701%2E007%2E0002&tierID=29&menuType=Dine+In&menu=1)

Alright so the weekend of the 20th it is then.
Chili's would be cool except for a couple of things: I don't know if I can eat there, and it's pretty far from my house. I'm willing to accept point 2 if I can be reassured on point one :) Then the plan will be daytime drinking -> dinner -> nighttime drinking -> hopfully not hangover.

Where is Chilli's? What sort of place is it? Do I wear my tuxedo? Or is it more like a burger and fries and line dancing place?

Unless someone slipped their cock into a pitcher of beer and screamed "HOT BEEF IN THE BEER!" Say, I think I'm onto something here.......

Nah, it's on the Great Western Highway, but it's close to the intersection with the Cumberland. The next set of lights to the east is Centenary Road, and it's just a bit after that.
Also, that night I have a few friends who are going for karaoke in the city, which Martine and I'll be heading to after dinner. Cass, I know that you've been thinking about doing karaoke for a while, so if you want to include that in the intinerary, I'll leave up to you.

Weekend before is the 1-year anniversary of the inaugural Sydney ZGeek Cruise, maybe that followed in the evening by whatever festivities you desire for your birthday?
Just an idea.

Chili's no longer take bookings, so getting a table for 25 people would be near on impossible. They're no longer where we're eating.
We need ideas. Post away. I'd like to decide something by tomorrow, thursday latest.
Suggestions so far have been Black Birds (http://www.blackbirdcafe.com.au/index.html) at Cockle Bay type area - it's a cafe at cafe prices and cafe meals but is apprently quite good. It seats large numbers of people but you can't book so we'd still have to queue up and wait.
Thai is another option that has been eagerly suggested, but places that would seat 25 are unknown.
I'm very over the whole chinatown idea as every place I have been taken there (generally by Soc/Diva) has sucked arse.
Glompbot
16-03-2004, 04:28 PM
AS I said.
You can always just show up to chillis, and WAIT for a table.
I'm sure no one would mind... Even if you have to sit at more than one table.
Also are there really 25 people going? because the confirmed list says otherwise.

That's all good and well, but what happens when 25 of us turn up, and they're packed as, and only manage to get 20 seats? do 20 people go and sit down while the other 5 wait even longer?
Personally, I don't want to spend any time standing up waiting for a table. It just gets messy when that sorta thing happens.
I have no idea where else to go though. I think no-matter where we pick, someone is gonna whine about it, but wouldn't it be best to find somewhere in the city as we are presumably going to the city for drinks after dinner?

thats my suggestion.
I may have to pull out if its too hard for me to get to though... Chillis was ideal for me because its so close...
thingy
16-03-2004, 04:56 PM
Lone Star is the crap if you have any more than 8 people. They fuck up orders like nobody's business. Plus that stupid line dancing gets me all stabby.
I've emailed blackbirds (they have no phone numbers listed).
There's 21 confirmed (provided all in the list are definites for dinner) and a few unconfirmed, hence me saying 25.
Multiple people have expressed that waiting is not an option for them. I tend to agree.

Hi James,
Unfortunately we only book out part of our cafe on Friday and Saturday nights and we have completely filled this section this weekend. You are more than welcome to come in, speak to the people on the door and they will be happy to look after you, but I am unable to take a booking. We are a 400 seat cafe and have operated using these procedures successfully for the past 5 years. I will let you know that our busier time is between 7.30pm & 9.30pm. If you were to come in during this time, there may be a short wait for a table of your group size, but we have a bar and deck chair area that you can have some drinks at whilst you wait. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to give me a call.
Thanks,

1. Not good enough. Everyone was a n00b once. Seriously dude, no-one is going to bite your head off. Fuck, if someone with a personality as abrasive as mine can rock up to a Zfunction and be made to feel completely welcome, anyone can. You're a cool cat. We want you to come. You're going to have a kickass time. You're going to see Blunt take his pants off... ok... ummm... strike that from the record. You're going to see Blunt make a total fool of himself. Take my word for it, just to see Blunt in action is worth the price of admission alone. You're going to see that your fellow Zgeekers are actually damned friendly and decent people (despite some of their posts). You're going to make new friends. You're going to get to give Cassa a birthday kiss. You're going to get to give thingy a birthday kiss. You're gonna have a fun night that you'll never forget.
2. Tired? Dude, you're coming to dinner (you ARE coming), not running a marathon. I was really tired on Wednesday night and had second thoughts about going to the JJJ Framebreaks event, but I went anyway... and you know what? I had a totally kickass night and met MoleTeaser and Koinbahd (and some other friends of theirs) for the first time. And you know what? They rock even more in person than they do on here. Go to bed early tonight or sleep in tomorrow, or catch a nap sometime. Problem solved.
You know you want to go. Don't let something like a little shyness or tiredness stop you from having a great night out and making new friends. Life is too short for that.
You will join us on Saturday night. *hand motion* These are not the droids you're looking for.

You're going to see Blunt take his pants off... ok... ummm... strike that from the record. You're going to see Blunt make a total fool of himself. Take my word for it, just to see Blunt in action is worth the price of admission alone. You're going to see that your fellow Zgeekers are actually damned friendly and decent people
Never in question!

Yeah, I know I know, but I'm booked for tonight (One of my girls mates has had a baby this week) so sleeping lots is out of the question.

You know you want to go. Don't let something like a little shyness or tiredness stop you from having a great night out and making new friends. Life is too short for that.
Fully, I'm pretty keen, but I know there will be other opportunities, especially seeing as I now know how welcoming you guys would be.

yeah, nearly got me mate, but no cigar, please don't take my refusal to go as rude in anyway or be offended, I just can't indulge this time, but Like I say I'm keen to meet you all at some stage, It's my birthday on the 19th of april so perhaps an event close to then?
I feel all warm and fuzzy now! warm, fuzzy and very very sleepy and a little edgy also, and slightly hungry......

At my first Zmeet I drank far too much, talked total bullshit, took my pants off a few times and got everyone kicked out of a pub. The rest is history. Not bad for a filthy n00b, eh?
You gotta come anyway Benwah. Just so I can buy your NES. Then you can go take a flying fuck at a rolling donut for all I care. Nah, actually you should come drink too.
I'll look after you......

Hey, I was THERE, wasn't I??? Despite the fact that I had to catch a train and a taxi across the city and the fact that I'm one of the laziest people alive. :p
And all that effort was worth it. It was a kickass night and I got to meet some kickass people... oh, and I got to meet MoleTeaser and Koinbahd too. :D

I confess I can't believe someone *meaningful stare* thought I was gay. Someone else did say at dinner, "wow, you're actually quite charming in real life".
Urgh, I kinda regret going now.
I confess today I am drowning in my own mucus.
I confess I made breakfast last night for today because I knew I'd have to take my antibiotic.... and in the nature of breakfasts its got lots of sugar :D
I confess I chopped up a whole heap of fruit, added sugar and boiling water... and left in the fridge all night... huzzah for fruit in fruity syrup.

You yourself are guilty of these wild assumptions missy.

Thanks again for the weekend.
Thanks to thingy for being the transport/BnB.
I came out of Saturday night with a mystery burn scar on my finger, but at least I was better off than Blunt. That hedge had it coming. :p
Sapia, I can't stop thinking of the word 'mongoose'. I blame you.

Everyone who was there on saturday night was too freakin' cool for school. 'Twas a night of fun, drinking and screaming at the jukebox and other such debauchery.
Special props to the brave souls who basically carried me home and then nursed me to health on sunday :)
Sorry I couldn't make it. The dress rehearsal for this cool comedy show (http://www.insertcomedy.org) took 13 hours.
I am now seriously deprived of sleep. 14 hours total from 3 nights gimme headaches.
