RAM - Dual or Single channel mode?

I got a pair kit of 512mb of RAM, so total is a gig right.
when i boot up the machine it shows the amount of ram but says its in single channel mode. Should this actually be dual channel mode or is single channel mode what its supposed to say?
Theres nothing in the bios about changing it, so would i have change the slots the ram is on to see if it changes to dual channel? thanks for any help.

Stick them in slots 1 and 3 for dual channel, although the performance difference is very small, especially with an AMD processor.
