Background:
Uncle in sydney has a MAC network and a network printer off a HUB.
He has 1 WindowsXP PC which needs to connect to the network and more importantly the printer.
Where I am:
In Melbourne for a start. Currently it seems like the PC is not connecting up to the network at all. Tried going to network places my work group computers and couldn't get access.
Have run a network setup wizard to try and rectify things but didn't get anywhere.
What I need:
Where to get settings on the MACs so that I can put the right settings on the Windows box.
What Protocols etc. need to be running on the windows box.
Any hints/suggestions other ZGeekers may feel will be helpful.
THANKS

The printer will be easy as XP can print direct to the ip address on the printer. To make this happen find out the IP address of the printer and in XP just create add a new local printer (not network) and create a new port. This port will obviously be the ip address of the printer. If the printer does not have an ip address..... add one.
As to file sharing between XP and a MAC, no idea but I am sure a google search will help you.

Unfortunately the person on the other end of the phone line doesn't know anything about computers.
How do I enable Apple Talk on an XP compy?
How can I get the Printers IP address off a Mac?
How can I get the network config of a Mac?
I suppose my life would be made much easier if I had a printer model too wouldn't it? Crap. I'll get that soon.

So if the printer is using apple talk I have to switch it over to TCP/IP?
Crap so I need printer details and possibly hub/router details.
this is bloody painful to do on an interstate phone call. Any Geeks in Sydney want to do me a favour?

Mac's and Windows can coexist using IP. U will need something like "Dave" on a Mac to see the Windows PC's or a copy of Windows 2000 server (and above) to create a Mac partition on the a Windows PC.
The other way U can move files from Mac to PC's is to set up an FTP server on one of the workstations and use FTP to move your files from one to another.
It's been a while since I did any Apple to IBM stuff, so all this may well be out of date.

PC MAC LAN (http://www.miramar.com) Software is teh king
Thanks for everyone's help.
Seems they bought the printer at a MAC store so it's prolly setup for spacintosh boxes.
My end advice was try PC MAC LAN or get a usb-firewire cable and go direct to the printer.
