ok heres the thing -
ive got a new HP thats less than 2 weeks old and already its gone crazy. (before you wonder how i got in here in the first place without using my new computer, im using my old pc right now)
i suspect its a virus of some sort but whatever it is, its got me by the balls and i have no clue what to do.
this morning i was going 2 download some song from Kazaa, but when i opened the program, the screen started flashing from the shutdown screen and back to the kazza program every 2-3 seconds. signs of a virus ??? i think it might be...
anywayz i panic'd... turned off the computer from the powerpoint because CTRL+ALT+DEL did nothing to help the problem.
and now, when i turn on my computer, the the hard drive loads, but the screen continues to be on standby mode as if i never turned on the computer! its simply not responding to the computer being switched on.
the monitor is also brand new, but i tried my old pc monitor on my new pc and still.. the screen stayed on standby.
the keyboard and mouse seem to be functioning, but how can i tell if nothing appears on screen...
what could it be??
please help im shaking in my boots here..
Sounds like a hardware problem - busted video card maybe?
Whatever it is - its a HP brand name, and its two weeks old. Its busted. Go in get a new one.
Good luck.

I agree. It's under warrantee. *DON'T SCREW WITH IT* Especially friends who are going to do "DIAGNOSTICS" and you think they may know what the fuck they are doing. Open the case- and your warrantee is fucked. If it's any consolation, component failure has a much higher probability of occurring sooner rather than later with electronic goods. HP stuff does not excite me I'm afraid. I would recommend taking it back and getting a refund, so you can buy better stuff. I really detest shit hardware, and for the money I'm sure you can do much better.
Do not let your friend open the case up.

You can open it as long as you don't disturb any of the shiny stickers.................I actually had Dell tech support tell be to open up my case(defective fan, I knew which fan it was but they made me open it just to confirm with fan).

Not if you cause the case switch to operate without authority.

I had a problem with ATX power on my motherboard that had the same symptom (ie turn on and seems to start but screen is on stand by). Whatever it is - the only benefit of buying brand name is they have people you can call - so I'd be calling them up or taking it back...

wow some1 else out there had the same problem?! was it expensive to fix?
Helllllloooo!!! You dont have to pay to fix it. Its a product which is still under warranty. It doesnt work. Go back. Play dumb. It dont work. I want a new one. Two weeks should be close enough to the original date that they wont try to fix it, but give you a new one instead.
Thats it. Dont worry about it. Dont try to fix it. Dont open the case. Dont try to diagnose the problem. Its not your problem. Its theirs.

Oh, and you are going to pay for the plane ticket?
Dont worry about it. Its not your fault. Keep telling yourself that. And you will be fine. These things happen, thats why they have a 14 day product replacment garantee (in Germany anyway). I bought I hardddrive 4 months ago, formatted it. It had bad sectors. I returned it, and got a new one. I bought a mobile phone 1.5 years ago. Didnt start up properly. Went back, and got a new one. Bought a MP3 player. It died within 3 days (didnt start). Went back and got a new one.
