I know it gets a lot of bad press, but I find CD Creator 6 is pretty damn good...

What sort of DVD. Video or Data?

Personally I use Nero to burn everything.

Authoring I use like TmpegDVD Authoring then get it to spit out the IFO and VOBS and then use neros DVD-Video template to burn.

From what I have used, Nero to burn (most reliable)

Sonic MyDVD isn't a bad little program either. Easy to create menus and set up chapters. Does the works.

Cheers guys, just got the burner yesterday and tried to use Ulead. My god it was shit. It reminded me of how NOT to write programs...

So I'm just downloading stuff at work :D

So if I wanted to 'backup' some of 'my' dvds to 'protect' the originals RecordNow would do the trick?

well if you're going dvd9 to dvd5, you're gonna need a combination of programs to get it done properly.

I would suggest you steer clear of programs like dvdxcopy and those ones that claim, dvd9-5 including menus and everything else.

i'd go here

www.dvdrhelp.com

http://www.dvdrhelp.com/tools?section=19#19

it has some great insight as to what to use.

you basically need to compress your dvd9 to fit ona dvd5, there are a few options and for the most part the quality loss won't be recognisable.

For burning, Nero has always been the duck's guts for me.

For ripping, I use DVD Decrypter. It extracts the vob's and strips out the region and macrovision protection at the same time.

For fitting ripped dvd9's onto blank dvd5's, I've recently been using CloneDVD2 and I like it.

Also, another recommendation to check out the guides at www.dvdrhelp.com (http://www.dvdrhelp.com)

I use DVD Shrink (Freeware) to backup my DVD movies to DVD-R. Takes about 45 minutes per disk and allows you to specify the level of compression (I tend to set the menus and extra features to be VERY compressed, leaving more space for the movie). Also allows removal of bits you don't want (foreign language sound tracks, garbage extras, menus, etc) if that's what you're looking for.

It hooks into Nero nicely (Shrink prepares the disk image, then fires up Nero automagically and burns the disk for you), and I've found Nero to be excellent for burning data disks. The latest version has good support for backups (incrememental and differential backup support is handy), although I have found Nero handles multiple burners strangely. It treats DVD+-R and CDR as different entities, so you can't just create a CD image, discover it is too big, and burn it to DVD. You have to recreate the layout as a DVD from scratch. Silly, but it's still pretty good overall.

Yea I agree, DVD Shrink it one of favourites. I also use DVD Decrypter and DVDXCOPY Platinum.
