Here’s a film that could have knocked “Gigli” off the worst-flicks lists: Michael Jackson wanted to star in a movie about a man who turns into a car that’s driven around by a little boy.

The singer — who’s facing child molestation charges — was trying to get a film called “Hot Rod” made, according to “Jersey Girl” director Kevin Smith.

“It was about Michael Jackson morphing into a car,” (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4500364/)

Bit of Freudian wish-fulfillment? Hmmm.

This concept has been done before - in the eighties era of "vehicle-themed" shows: Airwolf, StreetHawk, Blue Thunder, Highwayman, there was a short-lived show called "AutoMan" about a guy who could turn into a car.

And yes. It sucked.

Automan (Chuck Wagner) didn't turn into a car. He himself was a hologram, created by computer wiz police officer, Walter Nebicher (Desi Arnez, Jr), to help him fight crime. He had a "cursor" (similar looking to the one in TRON) that could create temporary solid matter inanimate objects, such as an Autocar, clothes, guns, etc, by drawing on the electrical power of the city.

He was called Automan, because he was "the world's first truly automatic man". At the beginning of the show, he explained that he was programmed to be the best at everything, to be as good as "John Travolta dancing, or Jimmy Connors playing tennis... on a scale of one to ten, think of me as... an eleven."

As these objects were holograms, they weren't ruled by every day laws of physics. For example, the Autocar was unaffected by inertia. When Automan was driving the Autocar and he turned a corner, the car didn't follow a curve... it made a 90 degree turn in a split second, the same way the Light Cycles did on the Game Grid in TRON. Unfortunately for the police detective, being flesh and blood, he was still affected by inertia, so he would regularly and inevitably end up smeared against the passenger window whenever he went with Automan for the drive in the Autocar.

But sorry, dude... at no time did Automan himself turn into a car.

Automan didn't actually turn into a car, his friend "Cursor" did,.........Just to confuse matters.

Edit: Damn you Tikdoth for beating me to it & going into more detail......................It seems that I have a different internet usage timeframe than most of you so I rarely get to be first on anything.

I used to have a friction-powered "Automan" toy car when I was a kid. Ahh, memories...
