Hello,
I am very new to Overclocking and I need a little help. I have an Abit IC7-Max3, 2.6c Pentium4, 1GB (2x512mb) OCZ PC4000 Gold EL, Abit GeForce 4 Ti4200 OTES (Which I belived is clocked to a Ti4600 or a Ti4400 out of the box), and a Antec True 460w PSU. For Cooling I have a Thermalright SP94 Copper Heatsink with a 80mm fan.

1. I have heard that intel cpus cannot have there multiplier changed is that true? If so is a 2.6c (800MHz) multiplier 3.25x?

2. If you cannot modify the multiplier, you have to obtain faster speed by the FSB right?

3. If I have a 2.6c running @ 3.25x800MHz=2600MHz and my ram was PC4000 running at 400MHz (200MHzx2=400MHz), could I run the 2.6c @ 3.25x1000MHz (Running @ 250Mhz FSB) with my PC4000 running at it's stock values? If so what would I have to do to adjust my AGP to meet the extra speed, or do I even have to? Or will this configuration not even work? (I know it's possible for it to be unstable, I just wondering if these would be the right OC specs to obtain that speed). So in the end I would end up with a 2.6c running @ 3.2GHz, FSB running @ 1GHz, and Memory Running @ DDR500MHz.

Thanks Guys :)

Bump the FSB up a notch, rebooting after every change. If it gets unstable, then take it back down a bit. Quick, simple overclocking. :)

And no, you won't need to fiddle with the AGP.

My best advice to you is to head over to Overclockers Australia (http://www.overclockers.com.au), register and have a look about the forums.

A lot of those guys are positively obsessive about overclocking and will give you sound advice.

Don't just jump in at the deep end without some research, it can be costly. :)

1. multiplier cannot be unlocked. but your mulitplier isnt 3.25 its 2600/200, as the front side bus is quad pumped this means the fsb for the CPU would be a quater of that speed. ie 200, your multiplier is hence 13.

2. you need to up the front side bus of the CPU to obtain a higher overclock, but with this you will also need to up the voltages running into your CPU, this is where the damage can occur. force to much current into your CPU and you will kill it, i think the safe range is 0.25 volts over stock unless you have mad cooling or just plain mad. (read up on this part. its vital)

3. it is possible to attain an overclock like that but its all up to how good your cpu is. mine is a 1.8A northwood B0, it gets up to 2.7, with a fsb of 600, thats pretty good for the B0 1.8A (its pretty average for the C1 though)

and afaik your agp and PCI buses are locked so dont need to worry about them.
